UNLUCKY?

 THEN

 NOW

It is said that my father accurately guessed the date of my birth. That wasn't exactly difficult to do. I have seven cousins on my father's side of the family and every one of them were born on either the 13th or 14th. On different months, of course.

This time around my birthday falls on Friday the 13th. A supposedly unlucky day - and an unnervingly accurate assessment of my entire life:
which has largely been one long consecutive series of disasters, mishaps, disillusion, mayhem, and misery.

Of course, I'm a devout pessimist.

The only good thing is that I'm a Sagittarius. Which means I'm multi-talented, intelligent, good-looking, fascinating, sexy, and intriguingly unique.

Of course, I made that up.

So, here's the Big Question:
How old am I?

Let's put it this way - it would probably take half a dozen birthday cakes to hold all the candles.
I'm way over fifty. That's all I'll say.

But, I want to deny the ugly rumor that my childhood photos were taken by Mathew Brady.

Think about that for awhile. It will eventually get funny.

By the way - a big happy birthday to Susan

 who shares my birthday.

  1. Call me strange, but Friday the 13th have always been wonderful days for me!

That cigarette just gives that picture the " I don't give two shits about anything" look!!!!!! I love it!!!! I'll be away for the weekend but wanted to make sure I had time to stop by and wish you dear friend a Happy Birthday...and hopefully some good luck and peaceful vibes to send your way. Maybe I'll even find a Aladdin's lamp for you to rub. Just what three wished would you ask for tootes?

    1. That photo is a selfie which I took when I was slightly drunk. I was hoping the cigarette would make me look tough.

      Three wishes?
Eternal youth, good health, and ample money.

  2. I had to look up Brady. A very happy birthday to you! I have admired your little tyke picture since the first time I saw it. My guess is 58. You don't look any older than my high school classmates.

    1. That little tyke picture is my favorite childhood photo. I think I was two...and I remember when it was taken. In downtown New Brunswick, New Jersey.

  3. Happy Birthday, Jon! Yours and Susan's precede mine by 4 days. I just came in from asking about the 13th from the black cat in the yard. He asked how old I'd turn. Told him 70. He just shook his head and went off to find somebody else's path to cross. Speak to your cats. I have, and am improving.

    1. Geo - those of us with December birthdays are very special people. If your birthday precedes mine by four days, then you share my maternal grandfather's birthday.
My two cats are the only ones I've been talking to lately and I've learned a lot from them. They're also good listeners.

Have a wonderful birthday, Geo - filled with love, warmth, good memories, and the very best wishes. It's an honor to have you as a friend.

    1. It's always best to be blunt. I sure hope my luck will improve soon - - I think a positive attitude will help. Glad you liked the Brady reference (*smile*) and thanks for your kind thoughts.

  7. A Haiku for Jon
    On his very special day
    You make us happy

    *Big Birthday Hugs*

P.S. That last line is not meant to be part of the art of Haiku: It was just simple words coming straight from the heart :-)

  9. Do tell. What is a Haiku? Now listen to me, young man, you are as old as you feel and if you feel old then sit back and enjoy it. Just let me know when you catch me up!

    1. Haiku is a special type of Japanese poetry - of which I know very little.
Valerie, you are ageless...and so am I. It's the best age to be!

  10. Actually, 13 is my favorite number! I could try and think of something original or witty, but I'm coming up empty. Just heartfelt wishes you've reasons to smile today; and that your new year is 200% better than last!

    1. No need to be witty, Myra - I'm not in a witty mood. But it's been a fairly pleasant day, which is all I can ask for. And I'm hoping for improvements in the new year.
13 is a pretty good number....

  11. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I hope you enjoy a stress-free day with lots of warm cozy feelings. Be kind to yourself. Play the piano. Sip a hot cup of tea. Read a good book. Today's the beginning of a new streak of good luck, cowboy.

Oh, by the way, as for your three wishes? Sounds good, but as for the eternal youth, I'm afraid that ship has already sailed. HA! However old you are, you can take solace in the fact that I'm a lot older. :)

I hope your B Day was fantastic, too! Big hugs!

  13. Happy Birthday, Jon ! It's going to be a better year ahead. Some say the glass is half full, some say the glass is half empty. It matters not - just drink it. Enjoy your day !

    1. Hey, Helga - it's good to hear from you - - and you gave me a big smile with the half-empty, half-full sentiment. I will drink it.....thanks!

  14. Happy Birthday! Or if not a happy one, at least a decent one. Friday the 13rd doesn't bother me, but before I retired from teaching, Friday the 13rd right before Winter Break (and with a full moon) would have sent me home despairing of the human race. The students would act like wild animals on crack! :) I'm going to guess you're about my age, 63. How close am I?

    1. I did have a decent birthday, thankfully.
Friday the 13th doesn't bother me, but there is definitely something about the full moon that brings out the bizarre in everybody. I noticed that (here in the wilderness) even the animals act unusually strange.

Goodness - I was hoping my "Now" photo wouldn't make me look too ancient....(*smile*)
