OUT OF THE CLOSET

Out of the closet??
Jon, are you gay???

Gay? Well, hombre, let's just say that I'm occasionally cautiously happy.

I was particularly happy to see the positive (and very encouraging) comments on my previous post. Many thanks!!

I did notice, however, that most of my "liberal" blogger "friends" didn't bother to comment.
They'd secretly be glad to get rid of me.

I've decided to slip out of my cloistered closet and blog more freely about what I think - - rather than what I think people want to hear.

When I'm feeling deeply depressed, I plan to depress the hell out of you.

When I'm in a psychotically nostalgic and melancholic  mood (a curse of my Hungarian heritage) I'm going to drown you in sentimentality.

When I occasionally use foul language, I'll hopefully shock you.
Come on, comrades - my blog posts are (usually) so benign that you could read them to your grandchildren.

I'll serenade you with my piano music - just to show off.

I'll occasionally make you laugh.....
and annoy you with sarcasm.

I'll more than occasionally infuriate you with political posts.
I'm officially out of the political closet.
Why the hell should I apologize for my political beliefs??
I'm on the winning team.

Holy crap-
immediately after I wrote that, all the people who left kind comments on my previous post just abandoned me.

Sooooo......
what have I been doing lately?
besides battling wasps, bees, flies, mosquitoes, mice mice mice, 'possums, raccoons, twenty-foot-high "weeds" with thorns, and mice....

I've been making homemade booze. Moonshine.
NO - I AM NOT KIDDING.
Since I can't buy the damn stuff in this godforsaken place, I've resorted to brewing my own.

It's still in the fermenting process.
In my next post I'll write more about it.

Here's a photo that will horrify you.
Every once in awhile I enjoy scaring the Plague masks off of you.

Actually, this photo was taken when I first moved to Texas. A big gust of wind blew the flag as I was holding it.
My parents bought this flag loooong ago at some famous Civil War site (I don't remember where).

  1. Your liberal blog friends(including me) probably didn't know quite what to say, and figured it was best not to comment. :) I used to keep anything controversial off my blog, but since it's my space (and I even pay for it), I've loosened those rules and write whatever I want, within reason. I try not to overshare too much personal stuff about my kids, especially since one daughter reads. I wish she didn't. Moonshine! Oh, my! You'll have to keep us posted on how it turns out. You're in a dry area? I would hate that.

    1. Truthfully, I'm neither Republican nor Democrat and I never voted in my entire life - which probably makes me a hypocrite. But I thoroughly enjoy torturing radical liberals (I don't mean you).

I once vowed never to reveal personal things on my blog, but found it to be a complete impossibility. (most people enjoy reading personal things).

  2. OMG! The Rebel Flag! My wife says you need to hang on to it as it will be Illegal soon! I doubt it... there will always be a redneck out there who will have various reasons why they fly it. As "patriotic" as I am, i have no means to hang an American flag, let alone a rebel one. I'm sure I would raise a few eyebrows here in Iowa if I had one in our window. I guess some might call it a confederate flag... but I like the "rebel" part of America. (Not the Anarchist... I more line up with the Anti-lockdown protests. They were armed!) Glad to hear you are sticking around.

    1. I think the Confederate flag is already illegal - - at least I'm waiting for the Flag Police to raid my blog. I never thought I'd live to see the day when statues of Columbus and even George Washington would be taken down.

I'm sure my Confederate flag would survive if I displayed it here in Tennessee.....but I won't risk it.

  3. Keep at it, Jon. I like your posts, even now whe. n I am supposed not to be able to write anything at all. T'is true tho, I am unable to get on line most days. It's something to do with poor inner machinery and poor computers. I never stop thinking of my friends though, and wishing all was well again.

    1. Valerie, I'm so sorry that you're still having computer trouble. It's always a pleasure to hear from you and you're often in my thoughts.

I, too, keep wishing that things would get back to normal.
We can keep our fingers crossed....

  4. Glad to hear you decided to stay! I so love your blog for so many reasons and in truth yours is one of the few I actually FIND the time to read and look forward to reading. Can you please save some of that moonshine for me? Thanks - LOL!!

I've never attempted to make homemade alcohol before, and hope I don't get sick. It should be "ready" to consume in a few days...

  5. Good for you, fermenting and preaching away! (Share your recipe sometime?) You give me faith there's still some Real People left in what feels like a Stepford Wives' world.

    1. "Preaching and fermenting" - that's funny! I'll only share booze recipes if I don't get sick from my own concoctions....

I am so disgusted with the insanity that has permeated our country - - I can't restrain myself from unleashing my wrath.

  6. Great photo Jon! You are brave for posting it. Not many people seem to know what it's really about. Yes, hate groups fly it. But the truth is this flag is not the National Stars and Bars. It is the Confederate Battle Flag and Navy Jack also known as The Rebel Flag and The Southern Cross and it represents a heritage as a battle flag not as a National Flag. It never flew over or occupied a slave nation the way the National Flag did. The battle flag still flies overseas - yes it has traveled as a battle flag by our southern soldiers - and if it could speak it would tell you war is hell. The Battle flag did not replace the National Stars and Bars until after Slavery was being, or had been, abolished and the people who can't sleep at night because it shape-shifts into a big bad white wolf need to find peace in the fact that Black soldiers fought under this flag. It was simply the flag of the Confederate Army. And it should be respected as such.
The Confederate Flag is a Standard for sure. But what it stands for is subjective. As a Yankee girl I have only associated this flag with the Civil War and the South - as in the South that will never rise again - although I sometimes think it might awaken as a fierce enemy if people don't calm down. R.I.P. Robert E. Lee. 🏳️🙏 Can't wait for the moonshine entry!

    1. You are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT about the history of the Confederate flag. It was indeed a battle flag and not a national one. The symbol of it has recently been completely twisted and misconstrued. I've always been interested in Civil War history.

      I'm definitely not a redneck - - - even though I'm making moonshine (*smile*).

  7. Just keep at writing about whatever you want to Jon. As far as I can still tell, this is hopefully a free country although sometimes I get to wondering. Some viewpoints may not be popular with everyone, but it is your right to voice them and other have the choice to agree, not agree, or remain silent.

    1. I'm very often guilty of saying too much - and many of my beliefs are unpopular - but I am obsessed with being true to myself. I appreciate your vote of confidence in tolerating my rambles and rants!

  8. Dear Jon, as you may have suspected over the past decade or so I am a liberal Democrat who tends to vote Centrist. So are all my kids except one and I still love him too. We've all been appalled at recent toppling of Confederate statues and memorials, banning of movies (like Huck Finn & GWTW), and books. Geo. Santayana concluded,"Those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it." And, Jon, I confidently venture to add, they will repeat it inaccurately. Works of art should not be defaced or withdrawn from public view, not ever. They are the most visited and passionate expressions of historical importance. It's like the Norse God Odin said, "I fear for Thought but fear much more for Memory.

  9. Heck,I'm certain that 98 per cent of the people who read my blog are liberal Democrats (honestly - I can only think of four who aren't).
You are an extremely rational, non-judgemental, intelligent, tolerant human being - - which is rare nowadays, no matter which political persuasion.

My political rants are always targeted at the ultra-left wing radical haters. I derive immense satisfaction in annoying them.
