ICY INTERLUDE AND BLOGGING

 sunset this evening

It's long after midnight on an icy night - hence the post title. The expected snow never materialized, but there were heavy flurries and plenty of ice. Tonight it is 12 degrees (Fahrenheit). Two nights ago it was 7. These frigid temperatures compel me to stay up and monitor the water pipes. I don't want them to freeze and burst like they did last winter.

Interlude?
This is a brief respite from my previous post The Long Interview - Part One. Judging by the tepid response it was undoubtedly too long. Some people might have thought it was boring and self-serving. I tend to vehemently disagree, and I might post the rest of the interview just for spite (sarcastic smile).

Most bloggers are very reluctant to reveal personal things about themselves. They toss out a tidbit now and then, but prefer to leave readers in the shadowy netherworld of uncertainty (perhaps they are much wiser than myself). I usually wear my heart (yes, I have one) on my proverbial sleeve. I felt that rehashing the interview would illuminate some of my shadows.

One of my long-time readers, Donna, recently mentioned that she misses my rants about my neighbors (and other annoying people I endured when I lived in Texas). Actually, I miss those rants, too. I used to turn my personal misery into enjoyable reading.

Way out here in the peace and privacy of the wilderness, I admittedly don't have many interesting things to tell. I've lately been reduced to writing about my cats and the weather. Not very appealing subjects, I'll admit.

I used to have a fantastically adventurous life. I figured that re-posting the interview about myself would help expunge the mundane blandness of my present situation. Against my better judgment, I'm going to put the rest of the interview in my next post.

As for tonight: it's moonless, quiet, and bitterly cold. My trio of cats are asleep. I'm drinking a cup of coffee and feeling thankful that the pipes didn't freeze - - yet.

  1. If it's really cold here in MD, I will shut the water off underneath the house/crawl space before I go to bed, then turn it on again in the morning.

It's a pain, sure, but I can sleep without worrying about the pipes freezing.

I also keep a 100 watt light bulb burning, butted up to the pipes in the crawl space.

    Ah, the joys of winter!

    :-)

    1. I honestly didn't think the winters in Tennessee were this harsh. January and Feb. seem to be the worst months. If I can get through that I'll (probably) be okay.

      Winter is a bitch.

  2. I love when cats expose their bellies to the sun; how contented can you get?

I didn't comment on your interview post because I had already read part one back on your other blog. you HAVE led a fascinating life despite all odds.

I hadn't realized that the damn interview as so loooong. It will probably take more than two posts.

  4. The posts are enjoyable I always find other people's lives to be much more interesting than mine. It's all the same for me and my everyday life. Remember that Dunkin Donuts guy from back in the day? "Time to make the donuts." That's how I feel trudging off to work everyday. Lather , rinse, repeat. Lol.

So keep posting anything and everything. I'm reading and who can resist your pics and stories. Btw, that picture of Scratch makes me want to hold him and rub his fur. He looks so content. :)

    1. I often write about my adventurous past simply to amuse myself and remind myself that I actually had one. My life is very mundane lately.
I appreciate your vote of confidence!

  5. I'm happy to read about your adventures, Jon. I like adventure. Spent the past hour trying to get Bloglovin off my Trainrides site. Did you know Bloglovin has you go thru a bunch of hoops to quit their service and then tells you you can't quit their service? I'd rather read about you interesting past any day.

    1. Geo, we seem to be having the same problems (issues?) lately. You recently mentioned Internet Explorer - which constantly stops working. I still have that problem and never found a solution.

As for Bloglovin' (I loathe that name), I have unsuccessfully been trying to get them off my mailing list for months. I still constantly receive email "updates" from them. It's more like Bloghatin'.......

  7. I'm glad we got out of TN before the frigid temperatures came in. We saw a few snowflakes the morning we left, but it still didn't feel all that cold. It's not very cold here, but it's raining again today. Again. Again. Again. Looks like January wants to compete with December for the wettest month in history...
