What about updates? I'm tired of them. I escape from my present miserable physical realities by substituting other things.
The possibility of getting surgery on my arm is still an ongoing issue. Everybody here is "working on it". I'm not in the mood to expound.
The Big News ( capitalized for dramatic emphasis) is that yesterday I was transferred to another room. My joy knows no bounds (sarcasm intended).
The reason is that renovations are in progress (whatever that means). I wasn't the only mobilized victim. I saw other beds and hapless victims being moved (yes, we get to keep our beds).
I have been moved from room 609 to 402. I shrewedly requested to be by a window, and my wish was granted.
The downside is that now I have a roommate. His name is Willie and he must be 95 (no exaggeration). He's quiet - - only occasionally talks in his sleep. And calls for a nurse now and then.
I prefer to be alone, but this isn't too bad. It could be worse (remember my roommate the previous time I was here?).
I'm still upgrading the photos in my phone files to a higher resolution.
.....every photo tells a story.....
(I just said that to make a smooth transition)
Siesta - - me when I lived in Texas. I lived in San Angelo for a few years. I also lived in two other TX towns.
My parents had a gorgeous home in Odessa. Me sitting there. The upper part of those windows had stained glass. Mom sold the house after my father died. I moved ALL of their furniture into storage entirely by myself ( thank God I was healthy back then). Then I took mom up north and we bought a house on the high plains.
Let's go waaaay back in California when I was a tiny cowboy.
Look closely. That's me about seven yrs. old, wearing a cowboy hat and holding a stick I found on the ground. I was on the set of the 1948 western movie "Fort Apache" starring John Wayne, Henry Fonda, and Shirley Temple.
The movie set was abandoned when I was there. 1948 was way before my time.
BTW many years later, I met John Wayne. Twice.
Here's a pic taken while "Fort Apache" was being filmed. The fort in the background is where I was standing.
Let's fast foreward to the wilds of Tennessee.
This is one of the dressers in my TN bedroom, with my cherished antique mirror from Italy.
This is a snake crawling down the side of the dresser in my bedroom. The serpent was difficult to capture. He (she?) was in my bedroom for two days before I was able to get him out of the house.
I slept in that room while the snake was in there. I'm a tough hombre.
This is the second serpent that was in my house. He was on a bookshelf in the dining area!
He was on the shelf second to the top, behind all those knick knacks and photos - - and NONE of them were knocked over!! How did he manage that??
I carefully removed all those items, with the snake cozily behind them.
Then the snake slithered down the side of the bookcase. I captured him. Do I have nerves of steel? Perhaps.
The third intruder was a black snake, who was in the living room. This is an encounter between him and my cat Bosco. I locked Bosco in the bedroom and managed to swish the snake out the front door.
While I'm at it, this was one of the adult possums that got into my house ( not to mention some baby possums). This must have been several years ago, because all three of my cats were alive then. They cornered the possum. I got a cage, scooted him in it, and let him loose on the back porch.
I was going to post some more family photos, but I'll wait 'till next time.
Until then, more pics taken in my "yard".
Imagine stepping out your back door and seeing this on an autumn afternoon....
I really don't mind having snakes and possums as neighbors.....
First snow in late autumn
The whisper of a sweet prayer at sunset
Jon, with luv 🤎
Jon, thanks for the update, your intended sarcasm was duly noted. It’s is one of the things that makes your posts interesting. At least you were not the only one dispatched to a new location and good new is the window location and quiet (sort of) roommate, Willie, who we may hear more about. The enhanced photos are really impressive, but the snakes not so much.
ReplyDeleteSarcasm is my middle name, of course. I should give more detailed updates, but sometimes I like to deflect from my current miserable .plight. The upgraded photos make a big difference.
DeleteThe last photo is amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhat is that red box on your dresser? Looks Hungarian.
I like to photograph sunsets, but it isn't easy due to all of the trees.
DeleteYes, that box is Hungarian but (unfortunately) it isn't an antique.
I love how you coexist with snakes and possums. I expect they've lived there for many generations.
ReplyDeleteI love nature and "wild" animals (reptiles excluded) - - but not when they get too close....
DeleteOkay, I'm cautiously optimistic about your new living conditions. (I'd have felt better if you were given a bed guaranteed not to sink, lol.) Maybe the presence of your roomie will provide more blog fodder?
ReplyDeleteThe possum was adorable; but even looking at photographs of the reptiles gives me the heebie jeebies.
I like the "new" room, but there is absolutely no privacy. Nurses keep coming in and out to check on Willie. My only desire is to go home - - despite the uninvited possums and reptiles.
DeleteI have possums, raccoons and groundhogs outside. That's where I hope they stay. The trees photos are beautiful. It is a bonus you got the window.
ReplyDeletePossums and raccoons can be very annoying. I also have wild hogs, lots of coyotes, and foxes. Snakes seldom scare me - - but I'm never certain if they're poisonous.
DeleteThe here in 402 is a bonus in this dreary place.
I meant to say " The window here in 402"
DeleteHad I seen a snake slithering down the dresser in my bedroom....I'd have been on the next plane out of the country....if I would have survived the sight! That's questionable. What type of snakes were the 1st two? Yikes!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got a new 'room with a view'. Hopefully the new roomie behaves himself. I hope that your arm surgery can be scheduled ASAP and you can evacuate sooner than later. How is the mobility issue(s)?
Paranormal John
The first time I saw the snake in my bedroom, I truly almost dropped dead - - but living all alone I simply had to deal with it. I finally got used to rural horrors.
DeleteMy new roommate is mercifully quiet.....I hope he stays that way.
I still don't know what the deal is with my arm. Everybody is "looking into it" but I have no faith in anyone. I'm still afraid of my lack of mobility. I'm doing a lot of leg exercises in bed. Unfortunately I can't do my arm excercises until I (if ever) get the surgery.
I honestly don't know what kind of snakes they were. I was assuning (hahaha) that they weren't venemous.
Deleteassuming
DeleteKeep up the leg exercises. The arm(s) will eventually be able to exercise when these folks get their shite together. Lower leg strength is imperative for ambulation. More is better.
ReplyDeleteOMG. I hope those snakes were not venomous. Just the thought of a reptile in the house is horrifying to me. I used to live in Miami, and I remember they cleared out a mango swamp near my apartment. One day a scorpion ran over my foot in the bathroom. Apparently, there's always lots of scorpion nests in mango swamps. I was warned about coral snakes and pigmy rattlers when walking my dogs in the yard. I had friends that lived on the canals in Ft. Lauderdale and they delt with alligators. Ohio started looking pretty good about then! Mother Nature is beautiful....but....!!
Paranormal John
Yes, I love nature "but"....
DeleteAll of those creepy creatures in Florida! I never knew there were scorpions in FL.
One of the Uber drivers here in TN told me he has scorpions in his yard! Wow, I thought I'd never see them again when I moved out of Texas.
