Every year I post the same holiday photos. Long time readers of my blog must be thoroughly sick of them.
My plausible excuse is that perhaps new readers haven't ever seen them before.
It's possible.
This year I will include commentary with the photos. I can only imagine how thrilled and excited you are.
Me with a department store Santa. According to the description written on the back, I was two years old. I looked older because I was tall. Perhaps I was near three years old. My birthday was December 13th.
That was quite a jacket. Looks like I was headed for Siberia.
My first official Christmas, one year old. Those were the classic days when trees were genuine real pine with an incredible heavenly scent - - - - and shimmering tinsel.
Nowadays kids don't know what a tree is. Their plastic/synthetic Christmas trees come in a Walmart box with a "Made in China" label.
This was our house that year. New Jersey snowfall. My father took this photo on Christmas Eve.
I have a specific memory of that house. I was learning to walk in the living room. I fell and my face hit a sharp corner of the coffee table. I had a deep cut near my left eye. To this day, I have a scar at the corner of my left eye.
Christmas at my Aunt Irene's house (my mother's eldest sister). Me with my two cousins Maryann and Dianne. They were so sweet and truly adored me. Aunt Irene and my cousins always spoiled me.
Christmas morning at our house. I don't know my age. Three, perhaps? Not maybe four? I remember those pajamas were yellow.
Well, that was a wonderful look back in time....
but what can I do to extend this (boring) post?
I was raised in California, lived there for 30 years.
I know! We'll go to Texas!
I moved there because my retired parents moved there. Regrettably. Texas isn't exactly my style.
I lived in San Angelo. Hottest place on earth. When it's 105 (Fahrenheit) on Halloween, it's time to move.
I lived in Odessa. Wild, windy, uncouth. My parents had a gorgeous house there. When my father died, Mom sold the house...and we moved up north, in a tiny town on the high plains - - sorta near Lubbock.
Took care of Mom for four years until she passed away.
On the high plains of West Texas, winter can be cold as a penguin's kiss ( just made that up....I'm damn clever).
Photos to enthrall you
Lisa, you might be right, Dahlia ' Eternal Snow'
A Christmas Eve midnight "snack" I prepared with tea and coffee. And egg nog.
That's about it for right now.
Christmas memories....
Jon ❤️ 🌲☃️🌲
I really messed this post up. Had to edit it.

I'm not sure if they're eternal snow. They look a little different. In Texas they are casually called snow flowers, but I'm sure it's not the proper name. I hope you and the kitties are well and staying strong. Take care.

DeleteLisa, you might be right on the flowers. I looked at them carefully on another photo.
DeleteThanks for the nice retrospective. Nice memories!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pam. I appreciate your comment.
DeleteNo, I never tire of your old photographs, Jon. (You may have prompted me to do something similar.) That one of your snow-covered Stetson is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI love that hat photo, too. I also have a photo with my snow-covered hat and boots.
DeleteI really enjoy looking at my old photos - - so msny memories. I hope you post your favorite photos.
I have always enjoyed the photo of you under the tree with the toys and THAT LOOK!!!!
ReplyDeleteI had a cranky look - - and I'm still that way in the morning. But I'm harmless. I won't bite....
DeleteDo you still own that Stetson? Pretty darn cool pic. Memories, indeed. We all got 'em. Some are better than others....but they remain with us...forever. Thanks for sharing. I hope your PT is progressing and the pain is subsiding? My wish for the New Year is homeward bound for you!
ReplyDeleteParanormal John
I love that photo, but the hat disapperaed when I moved from TX to TN. There are numerous PT people here and I recently got a good one. He has had me doing excercises to move my feet and bend my knees It's working, John. I never thought it would! Who knows - - - I don't want to give up or regress.
DeleteJon, I believe that memories can help us to carry on in the present and thank you for sharing these again.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that, Dorothy. Good memories can expunge the unpleasant ones.
DeleteVery nice photos Jon. Remembrances of Christmases past. I wish I had Christmas pictures like that. Alas, none with Santa but in my memory I remember those wonderful strong smelling Christmas trees with bubble lights and tinsel. I loved them! thanks for sharing Jon.
ReplyDeleteRon
I remember those bubble lights, they were popular when we were kids...and I loved the tinsel and scent of the trees. I'm glad I have a few holiday photos. Thanks, Ron.
DeleteJon, luv your photos of Christmas.
ReplyDeleteYour visit with Santa reminds of my own visits with Santa at Bullocks in Santa Ana. The pix would be taken and then off to the Estrella Room on the third floor for lunch and a chance to select a Corgi toy car from the toy department.
For I too had an aunt that would spoil me :)
Your prayer box reminds of my maternal grandad’s living room side table of votive candles, a statue of Mary, a picture of Christ of the Sacred Heart, a collection of prayer cards and heirloom borealis rosary beads, it was a veritable Catholic shrine ! Most of it given to him by his devout Spanish grandmother and Hungarian mother in law. Grandad was also a Buick man and on the dashboard he had a small statue of Mary, we called her Our Lady of the Buicks ! :)
Prayed over many times on the road in storms in New Jersey.
Luv them Christmas cookies, years ago Albertsons had the best. And that eggnog is great with a shot or two of brandy or Verpoorten liqueur.
Your aunt Irene and your cousins Maryann and Dianne were very fortunate to have a certain little fellow in their lives. :)

Your comments are always beautifully written and filled with interesting memories. I remember the Santa Ana Bullocks - - long ago when department stores had class. I have no idea what New Jersey store I saw Santa in, but it was in New Brunswick. I do remember Albertsons had good bakery food, and sometimes Alpha Beta. I really miss all my relatives. Maryann and Dianne are still here, but many more have passed away.
