Bosco, the chocolate drink?
No. Bosco the cat.
I originally named him Roscoe, but for some strange and unknown reason, I decided that he looked/acted more like a Bosco.
Go figure.
Bosco is nine years old this month. I've had him since the day he was born and it doesn't seem that long ago.
It was in the spring of 2014. I was living in Texas and going through some of the worst problems of my entire life.
To complicate matters, my neighbor moved away, abandoning her large brood of cats - who migrated to my back yard. I was soon taking care of about 25 cats (I told this harrowing story in a previous blog post).
Bosco and his "half"-sister Scruffy were born two weeks apart. They both had the same father but different mothers.
They were also two of the sickest kittens I ever saw. I doubted that either one would survive. I took them into the house and did everything possible to nurse them back to a semblance of health.
I already had my eldest cat Kitzee, who was about ten years old then. I didn't really want three cats, but finally decided to keep Bosco and Scruffy.
An Aside - -
I initially thought Scruffy was a male. It wasn't until I moved to Tennessee and my cousin Nancy informed me" "Scruffy isn't a boy. He's a girl."
Heck. What do I know?
Both kittens had extremely bad respiratory problems. Unfortunately Scruffy died when she was four.
Bosco still has many health issues, but he's doing okay. He's now my only surviving cat and my sole companion.
Kitzee, my oldest and most beloved cat, died when she was sixteen.
Cat photos are in order.....
He's now huge and heavy.
I love all black cats!!!! I think of them as actually being lucky cats. Bosco reminds me of my dearly departed black cat Starbooty. And the face of Kitzee in that picture gave me a good chuckle!!! She was a beautiful cat.
ReplyDeleteI hope black cats are lucky - - I need all the luck I can get. I like the name Starbooty.
DeleteKitzee looks defiant in that photo - but I think she was annoyed by the camera flas.

DeleteBosco is such a handsome kitty! I love all cats, but for some reason black cats are so elegant!
ReplyDeleteScruffy looks like she was a Tortie (Torteshell) - very pretty!
Black cats are definitely mysterious - and they have rather unusual personalities. Scruffy had an unusual mixture of creamy colors.
DeleteI get upset looking at photos of my deceased fur babies. I miss them immensely.
My black cat was named Sambuca, after the liquor. Glad Bosco survived under your care and he has obviously repaid the favor with continued devotion. (Beatrice)
ReplyDeleteBosco is lonely now that my other cats are deceased. He has become very attached to me and is a good companion.
DeleteBosco is the only black cat I ever had. His father was a HUGE black cat - - honestly the biggest cat I ever saw.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beauty! Bosco may be a sole survivor, but I love how he's so attached to you. Honestly, every time you mention your increasing health challenges I wonder, "What might happen to Bosco?" (Don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but I hope you know what I mean.)
ReplyDeleteI always worry about the fate of Bosco if anything happens to me. My cousin Nancy isn't in very good health, either. There's no animal shelter around here - but perhaps the local vet could provide some information/assistance.
DeleteBosco is a beautiful cat. I have a tuxedo, 'Eddie'. Love them all. I got Eddie at the Humane Society 3 days after my Rottweiler passed. Such therapy! He saved me, I think.
ReplyDeleteParanormal John
I'm glad that Eddie has given you happiness after the loss of your Rottweiler. Our beautiful animal companions have a special positive affect on us - especially during difficult times.
DeleteBosco is sweeter than chocolate. (salemslot9) 🖤
ReplyDeleteWell, almost.........(*smile*)
