LET'S GET REAL

Okay, for all of you spoil sports who don't like my (incredibly beautiful) AI generated images, I have some REAL art for you. Some real crappy art.

My long-time faithful blogger friends (all three of you) have already seen these, but I love reruns.

These are some pen & ink pictures that I drew in my creative youth - - around the ages of 18 to 20 or so. I did a lot of them, but most have disappeared.

Some of my drawings were published in literary magazines and a few other places (remember "Good Old Days" magazine?)

At an early age I came to the grim conclusion that I'm no artist, but it was an agreeable pastime.

This one was published in Good Old Days (I wonder if that magazine still exists)

Giacomo Puccini (1858 - 1924)

Italian opera composer

I did this with brown ink, in the art nouveau style

Barbara la Marr (1896 - 1926) silent screen movie star

I think this was my very first pen and ink drawing

Modest Mussorgsky (1839 - 1881)

Russian composer

A woodcut that I did of the Titanic

Jon ❤️  artistically yours

P.S.

I'm not in the mood to give medical updates. There's nothing new to tell - - except I'm severely depressed and feel completely, hopelessly trapped. Blogging gets my muddled mind off of unpleasant things.

And there are a helluva lot of unpleasant things in my life.......

ANOTHER P.S.

I just noticed something about my woodcut. The Titanic had four smoke stacks, but only three worked. The fourth one was a dummy, only there for aesthetic reasons.

The Titanic on my woodcut has four working smoke stacks. I'm wondering if anyone noticed.

  1. Good idea to post your original art, thank you. Any chance you'll try your hand again?

    1. I used to do oil paintings, but pen & inks are not as messy and I enjoy working in this medium. I would like to venture into it again.

  2. I'm glad to know I'm one of those 3 friends because I've seen these before, but I really enjoyed seeing them again! Thank you for sharing them again- they are amazing. Prayers and hugs to you Jon. Louise

    1. I'm glad you're one of the faithful few. I thought I might as well show some of my genuine art, instead of the AI images. It's good to hear from you, Louise. Take care.

  3. When reruns are this good, who minds?!? Shoot, I barely draw a stick figure.

    1. Sometimes stick figures can be creative. Art is the least of my humble talents, but I enjoyed working with pen & inks.
      Thanks!

  4. You are a talented artist, Jon! The Titanic woodcut is chilling.

Did you make your living as an artist and writer?

    1. Art is truly the least of my talents. I was never a good artist. I seldom made any money with art.
I was mostly a musician (in Calif.). When I moved to the Missouri Ozarks I earned my living as a freelance writer.
I like the color in the woodcut. It's ghostly.

  5. I always enjoy your re-runs, Jon -- whether they be a funny post, or incredible pen and ink images like this. As before, my favorites are the raccoon and old mill. I've always been overly interested in the Titanic, and this woodcut is magnificent. Ghostly, indeed.

    1. Believe it or not, I remembered that you liked the old mill ( I have an unnervingly good memory). At this point, I'd rather post re-runs than complain about all my problems.
It's difficult to make a woodcut, but the Titanic turned out pretty good.
      Thanks, Myra.

  6. Lovely drawings Jon, I don't recall seeing them before. The Titanic woodcut is excellent, and since my daughter is a woodworker I know how long a piece of art like that takes to complete !
    Thank you for sharing.

    1. I really enjoyed drawing with pen & ink, but doing a woodcut was a lot of trouble,
      Thank you, Jo.

  7. I'm no expert, but I think those drawings are quite good. If you want to see some "never going to make it" art I have some of my own!

    1. In retrospect, I'm seeing all the mistakes I made in these drawings - - but I guess they're ok. Working with ink is rather frustrating because you can't erase mistakes.

  8. I checked to see if Good Old Days is still around. It is.

    1. Wow, I'm surprised that it's still around, because many magazines are obsolete nowadays. I used to read it when I was a teenager.
      Thanks, Donna.

  9. I remember a lot of these and they are all very good! I didn't know that about the Titanic smoke stacks. I wish I could draw that well. Maybe you need to do some drawing in bed there. ;) You could order a tablet and some pens...and there are plenty of pictures online for inspiration if you need them. I like these much better than the AI--lol! Very talented, Jon. :)

    1. I really would like to draw here in Therapyland, but it's impossible. There are nurses, doctors, social workers, annoying people coming all day. And there's no room to put anything around this hospital bed. What if I spill the ink - 😄
You do a lot of very creative art work.
I'll still do some AI art, because it's easier. 😺

  10. Surely you jest, Jon. Only three long time blogger friends? There seems to be quite a few more, but, of course, your sarcasm is showing (again). Your artwork was wonderful to see and I do recall seeing some in previous posts, thanks for the break from AI images which I know are easier for you in your current situation. I admire your talent in art and music.

    2. Sarcasm is my middle name. You're right - - the reason I do so many AI images is because it's easy. Also, I accidentally signed up with Freepik for a year instead of a month, so I have a lot of credits to use. I'd like to try making an AI video, but it's rather complicated to comprehend.

I love comments. Go ahead and leave one - I won't bite. But make sure you have a rabies shot just in case.
