For the past ten years I've never had to use "comment moderation" settings on my blog. I never needed to. People were always kind, thoughtful, respectful. I'm sure many disagreed with me at times - - but they were tactful and polite.
It's unfortunate that, as of today, I'm compelled to change my comment settings. That means there will be moderation on those who comment anonymously.
There are many anonymous commenters whom I adore. John, Sam, Kim, Lisa, Gabrielle, RJ,.....I'm sorry I can't think of them all....but I will allow your comments.
There are specific reasons why certain people leave negative, derogatory, insulting, unpleasant, asinine comments - - - which are inevitably anonymous.
Their pathetic insignificance derives feelings of power, egotism, and self-worth by putting others down. I've dealt with many of these people and they are all cookie cutter similar.
They usually latch on to one person whom they chose to bully and harass. Their disdain is ALWAYS due to envy and jealousy.
If you allow them to continue their negative antics, it will reinforce their delusional sense of power. They thrive on getting a response.
Expulsion is the best counteraction.

This certain person began with only one specific negativity, but soon escalated to others, with no indication of stopping. Best to nip it in the bud......
