So, I've decided to inflict you with my latest video, which I made last night.
It's a rare composition entitled Hallowe'en Dance, published in 1908.
The composer is simply listed as H. Engelmann. My educated guess leads me to believe it's Hans Engelmann (1872 - 1914). He was a German musician who came to America, and had a successful career as a ragtime composer and performer.
My video is short, about two minutes, and is best viewed full-screen.
If the video doesn't work, for some reason, you can watch it on my YouTube channel Jayveesonata.
This was a fun post and in keeping with the upcoming holiday.
ReplyDeleteI initially didn't have much hope for this video, but it turned out a lot better than I expected. Glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteYou are so creative! The animation went perfectly to the music. Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteI was pleasantly surprised at how coordinated the video looked when I watched the finished version for the first time. More luck than talent....lol
DeleteThanks fo sharing that....I love Halloween music. It did give me the feel of a Silly Symphony as your aware. I love.
ReplyDeleteA few of the clips were taken from Silly Symphonies (I'm sure you knew it)... those old cartoons are priceless.

That's truly delightful, Jon. Do you mind if I share it on my FB page?
ReplyDeleteBTW .... They're totally amateurish, but I posted a couple 'homemade' videos on my blog yesterday.
Myra, feel free to share it wherever you want. I need all the help I can get (*smile*)
DeleteCOOL! Music and vid are very entertaining. Never heard of this composer before, but admittedly, my knowledge of composers is rather limited. THANK YOU for taking the time to put this together!!
ReplyDeleteI had fun making the video. At first I didn't know what kind of visuals to use with the music, but the old cartoons worked out very well.
DeleteBoy! Does this bring me back to when I was very little. Cartoons were so different back then. Not cute, shall we say. But this all fit together perfectly and sure sounds like it might have been used on an old cartoon back in the day. They often had a lot of music in them. Happy Halloween early, Jon. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Rita - those old cartoons were extremely creative, far superior to the things they have nowadays. And the Halloween Dance sounds like it could have been written for a cartoon.
DeleteAlways a pleasure! Loved it! ๐งก๐ค๐ป๐ฆ๐๐ฆ๐ป๐ค๐งก
ReplyDeleteAnd it's always a pleasure to hear from you - thanks! Have a great Halloween.
DeleteJon, I loved it big time! Especially the two dancing black cats! Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteDylan
Believe it or not, those two black cats are my favorites, too. I didn't pay much attention to them at first, but the more I watch them the funnier they get.
DeleteThat was a Happy Halloween video and I enjoyed it. The old cartoons were nostalgic and made me miss the days of the old style cartoons. Those were even old style when I was a kid, but I liked them back then, too. The music was perfect for the images.
ReplyDeleteThose old cartoons had so much creativity and atmosphere - I honestly think they appeal to adults even more than children. I never get tired of watching them.
DeleteYou are quite good at putting these together! Halloween used to be my favorite time of the year!
ReplyDeleteHalloween has always been my favorite time, but I think it has changed drastically in recent years. The charm and fun seems to be gone.
DeleteOr am I just getting older???
Fabulous blog
