Long ago I used to (jokingly) say that I'm the most interesting person I know.
Ever since I was seriously sick last summer, I've become the most uninteresting person I know. I have nothing to talk about except my ill health and daily mundane things.
My salad days are officially over.
The good news about my recent CT scan is indeed a monumental relief (see previous post) but there's a lot more negative things to contend with.
Take one day at a time, Jon
Here on the rustic homestead, I've had some good news.
Last week, a man was supposed to come on Friday to bush hog my property (for $150). He didn't show up because it rained.
On Thursday (the previous day) two strange workers came to my door and said they would cut my grass for free! I couldn't believe my ears.....and I couldn't resist the offer.
It turns out that the ambulance attendant (who transported me to the ER on several occasions) arranged to have my grass mowed - - I was truly astounded.
Incidentally, I knew that my property currently didn't need to be bush hogged. There was only grass to mow.
And another recent surprise occurred.
(never use a conjunction at the beginning of a sentence)
I had been planning to have gravel put down on my notoriously treacherous driveway. One of the home care nurses secretly arranged it. Two days ago a big red dump truck arrived and lined my driveway with gravel and stones. I asked how much I owed. The driver said it was free!
The genuine kindness of the people around here is beyond belief.
AND (ha ha)
Walmart quickly gave me a complete refund for my large order which was "lost" or delayed in transit.
Good things have been happening lately, except for one strange and unexpected negative.
A few days ago I got a call from the company that fixed my furnace last November. They said my payment was never received. I was shocked into oblivion, since I sent them a check for $285.
I called my bank to check my account. They had no record of a check for that amount in November. It must have been lost in the mail......or something.
I wrote another check but was very hesitant to mail it. I called the furnace company and told them to have someone come and get the check in person. They did.
It was rather odd that they waited five months to tell me about the missing payment......
I hate writing checks, since I now pay all of my bills online.
AND
(there's that pesky conjunction again)
I no longer have a credit card - - which I had since I was about twenty (two hundred years ago).
I try to live as simple as possible.......which isn't simple.
I took some extremely bland and boring photos of the front "yard" last Monday, while I was waiting in my wheelchair for the transport ride to Cookeville.
I didn't yet have the gravel driveway.
Jon
The door at the Cookeville Cancer Center, where I was waiting for my ride to go home.
A snake on my front porch, which I tossed into the yard.
I'm so glad good things are happening to you!
ReplyDeleteI was almost convinced that I was cursed. It's wonderful to finally have some positive things happening.
DeleteI think you're due a bunch of kind deeds, and I'm glad they're happening. You're good people.
ReplyDeleteI try to be good people (*smile*). May has begun with some wonderful positivity.
DeleteAND I nearly shat myself when I saw the snake on your front porch. To hell with conjunctions at this point! What kind of snake was that? You're very brave picking
ReplyDeletethat up. So glad to hear you've had some good things falling your way. Bout time! At
least someone else didn't cash that check for the furnace. The good, old USPS lost a check to my insurance company recently. It never did show up. Hoping all the good May things roll into June and beyond. AND by the way Jon, you ARE interesting.
Paranormal John
And I'm getting smiles from your comment. I have no idea what kind of snake that was.....I'm foolishly assuming that it wasn't poisonous.
DeleteI've lived here for nearly ten years, and so far I've had three snakes in the house (!!!!) - - not all at the same time. I try to be brave.
Hopefully May might remain with positive things.
And by the way - - thanks for your comment.
Look at that front yard! Magnificent! I had a black snake wiggling its way through my lawn last week. Kindred spirits, maybe? Bill? Isn't it wonderful that some people just do wonderful and helpful things for you for free? While caring for Bill I encountered that several times, first few times it took my breath away. My first reaction was "What's the catch?" There was none, they were just being nice. Truly touched my heart. By the way, mowing one's lawn for free is something that is going around the Internet. They post it to their You Tube account. One of Pat's neighbors had that offer which took him aback.
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to check in on you Jon. You do not lead a dull life, you are always interesting. Even more when you rescue another cat, or two. Got to take care of those mice that have taken up residence in your country retreat.
Ron of Retired in Delaware
It's good to hear from you, Ron. , you're often in my thoughts.I never knew there were so many kind and generous people until I got sick last summer. I am amazed and humbled. That includes all of our blogger friends.
DeleteIf all goes well, I'm thinking about rescuing some more kitties
I'm lost without them.
Take care, and thanks for your comment.
You're never uninteresting, Jon!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised - but enormously touched - by your unexpected blessings. Thank you for telling us.
Pretty sure my habit of beginning sentences with conjunctions hasn't gone unnoticed. I used to pride myself for using correct grammar -- and absolutely cringed when someone ended their sentence with a proposition. After a while, hearing others (even broadcasters!) butcher their sentences I'm like, "Why should I even care?"
Dang! It happened again ... blogger ate my comment. (Maybe it's in spam?)
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why this keeps happening - - it's really infuriating!
DeleteI'm wondering if anyone else is having the same problem....
Unfortunately we're not the only ones -- tho I feel Blogger's put a target on my name. It's gotten so bad (that) I check the comments section every day. Sure enough, every week I see a 'regular' friend's name.
DeletePS -- You are anything BUT uninteresting.
AND the goodness keeps flowing! (As you know I start a lot of sentences with "and"--because I do in real life--lol!) Although I should start many on my blog with "Oh, and guess what?!"
ReplyDeleteSo very glad to hear you have gotten help with your yard and the driveway!! For free!! And delivery money refunded, too!! Whoohoo! I want to see a picture of the new driveway.
Yes, now all you need is a cat or two to make your life complete. :)
I'm in shock - - too many good things are happening. I'm not used to that.
DeleteI can't get a good view of the driveway from my front porch, but I'll see if I can get a photo. Unfortunately it's raining today.
A couple of kitties would be wonderful company.
It’s nice to hear of someone being kind and helping others. Glad you were blessed with the help, you deserve it. I’ve had the post office lose quite a few things the last few years, but they don’t mind raising costs for poor service. Take care Jon, Sheila Y
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed at how many kind and helpful people there are.
DeleteThe postal service used to be careful and trustworthy, but things have changed for the worst.....and the price of postage is outrageous.
You tossed a sna...sna... you picked it up with your handa and tossed it? Aaaiiiiiiiaeeeeeeeeee! 🫣
ReplyDeleteI'm tougher than I look. At this point, I have nothing to lose. I'm just thankful that it wasn't poisonous.......
DeleteThat is so amazing that it almost gives me hope yet for mankind. :-D
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I am check writer because I HATE having to pay anything ONLINE! I have been burned TWICE so I learned my lesson the hard way, lol
So happy that things are finally getting better, Jon!
I'm really glad that things are getting better - - but I'm only cautiously optimistic.
DeleteI initially never wanted to pay my bills online, but when I was hospitalized and in rehab I had no choice. I had to use my cell phone. Then I got used to it......but it's easy to get burned online
So much Good, no make that GREAT news in this update post, Jon. It made me happy to read that there are people helping people and you certainly deserved that help after all your mishaps and misfortunes. Glad that May has started off so wonderful and hoping that it will only continue. I really believe that kind actions can go a long way to helping heal emotionally, physically and mentally.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your comment about the USPS slipping in service as recently packages have been delayed so long. The cost of 1st class postage keeps going up - 75 cents on July 14, Yikes!
It is really comforting to know there are so many helpful and generous people. I was always fiercely independent trying to do everything myself. My illness was a lesson in humility - - we need the help of others in order to survive.
Delete75 cent postage?!?!? Wow - I remember when stamps were five cents.....
It's good to know that people take it up on themselves and help their fellow man, and by the way, your lawn is looking amazingly green.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this is the beginning of better times, you've most certainly endured more than your share of misfortune this past year. The Cicadas are taking over, just a heads up 😁
Stay the course dear friend.
Jo
It's a wonderful feeling to have some positive things in my life for a change - - although my optimism is always cautious. It's a great relief knowing that my next CT scan and dr. appointment will be in September.
DeleteWe are presently having so much rain that I'm worried about the lawn and the driveway.
I liked your photos of the Cicadas.
That snake looks good-sized, doubt I'd pick it up, except with a stick! You're a better man than I, Gunga Din.
ReplyDeleteIt's about time fortune smiled on you, Jon. I hope it continues, you deserve it.
I was an early convert to paying bills online, but around 12 years ago, I got back from a 4 day camping trip with the kids, got some cash out for shopping, noticed the balance was rather less than it should have been. Turns out I'd been hacked, and some enterprising kid had taken out 100+ purchases of a thing called 'Warcraft', a video game, at 39.99 a whack. Lol....the bank got it resolved, but I swore off online purchases for a couple years.
Anyway, hope your health is improving.
Mike
I am basically a coward, but I've gotten used to snakes since I lived in Texas and Tennessee.
DeleteAll of the recent positive things have lifted my spirits - - although my optimism is always cautious.
I do everything online now, since I'm home and no longer drive. Unfortunately, everything is a risk nowadays. When I lived in Texas I was a victim of credit card identity theft - - by a woman who lived in Europe! I have no idea how that happened.
thecontemplativecat here. Black snakes are scary simply because snakes just are. Your lawn is so beautiful and green. God has surrounded you with people who care for what you need and what to do.
ReplyDeleteBlack snakes really do look scary, but I assumed that it wasn't poisonous (thankfully).
DeleteMy lawn looks lovely when it's cut - - but the frequent rain makes it grow incredibly fast.
I'm astonished at how many kind and generous people there are.
I am completely happy for you that you got your grass mowed, gravel on the driveway, a refund for your missing shipment. Yay for it all. There are many good people out there in the world.
ReplyDeleteBut, that nasty snake. Ewww! Wendy
