BETWEEN RAINDROPS

In a valiant attempt to let you recover from my previous post (Bad Company), I'm offering some photos that I recently took.

It has been raining all week. Yesterday (Thursday) the rain clouds miraculously disappeared. The sky was pure blue, the sunshine was golden, and it was a glorious day. Alas, glory never lasts long. Today (Friday) it's pouring rain again.

Yesterday, I  thought I had let my cat Scratch outside. When I didn't see her for several hours I figured she might have gotten lost. Despite a busy schedule and a bad back, I went trekking through the woods to look for her. When I finally returned to the house - breathless, muddy, and bug-bitten - Scratch greeted me when I opened the door. She hadn't been out after all - - she was inside the whole while.
Damn those pesky cats.

The day was so beautiful, that I decided to grab my El Cheapo camera and take some pictures on my property. I ventured back out into the woods. The sunlight was directly overhead, filtering dramatically through the leaves. These photos don't really do it justice.

 Here's Bosco relaxing

I took this photo with my cell phone early this morning while lying in bed. Bosco and Scruffy are looking out the window at the fog.

Finally! Here are the woods!

Heck, I haven't seen so much green since I was in the Emerald City of Oz.
If the forest photos didn't turn you on, I'll be writing more about my turbulent past in future posts.

    1. Holy crap, I didn't think about snakes.
....as if I didn't already have enough to worry about.....

  2. We've had a lot of rain too and looking for more. Your pictures are pretty and I especially like the cats looking out at the fog.

  3. I'm glad you're getting rain because Texas can always use it. I like the picture with the cats at the window, too.

  4. Jon, it's raining here too! Yay! Magnificent forest photos of your yard. I wrote a post earlier this evening --tell me when google gets it to your dashboard, ok? They've been glitchy. We got cats from all over in the many overhangs of our roof. They almost permit themselves to look appreciative.

    1. Geo. it's early Saturday morning and your post finally appeared on my dashboard. Google has been acting very weird lately.
      Rain in California?? YAY!

  5. I love how rain makes everything so incredibly green! I bet you did not see green like that in Texas, eh??

    1. "Green" is definitely not in the Texas vocabulary. I'm thoroughly enjoying being surrounded by nature and everything green.

For an "el cheapo" camera, you take some damn good photos. Continue to share!

    1. Thanks, Ron - I will.

  8. Karma never goes out and yet I have lost her a few times. I think she enjoys hearing me calling for her when she's tucked away in some hiding place. She's normally very vocal--except when she knows I am looking for her, of course.

Lovely pics!! I envy your privacy out there in the woods. My favorite place I ever lived was where I couldn't see a neighbor. ;)

    1. I definitely prefer cats to stay safely indoors. When I do let my cats out they usually stay on the back porch. Scratch and Scruffy occasionally wander. Bosco likes it better indoors.

My cat Scratch is extremely good at hiding indoors. There have been many times when I thought she was lost forever.

  9. I guess I'm still groggy from just waking up but when you said you were in bed when you took the cat picture I envisioned you with your cowboy boots on. I second looking out for snakes (and leeches) but you sure live in a beautiful spot.

    1. In Texas I wore my boots constantly for fear of stepping on scorpions. Now, I'll be worrying about snakes and leeches......

  10. Hide and seek with kitties is always an adventure. Glad Scratch was safe and sound. Bosco looks extremely contemplative. Raining here too. Gives the weeds more nourishment than they need.

    1. Scratch is now ten years old and I can't even tell you how MANY times I thought she was missing. She is superb at hiding. And not answering when she is called.
Bosco is the most "laid back" of the three cats. He's quiet, timid, and obedient.

  11. The greenery is amazing, yes.
But you know what jumped out when I first spotted this (on my Mattel-istic phone)? Your words, "my property." (I hope it's as heady a feeling as what I interpreted.)

I love comments. Go ahead and leave one - I won't bite. But make sure you have a rabies shot just in case.
