A TEMPORARY CALM

This past week has been extremely frustrating (my previous over-the-top posts hardly scratched the surface) and the problems aren't over....

.....but October is my favorite month and I'm determined to savor it. The first frosts of autumn have made the past few nights bone-chilling. The days are cool, sunny, and delightful.

I didn't have to go any farther than my back yard to take these photos yesterday. The foliage is finally starting (just starting)  to show some seasonal color. The sun lingers lower in the sky, the shadows are longer.

Mellow October is a soothing remedy for unquiet souls.

  1. I love the orange trees against the blue sky. Cute little pumpkin. Some of nature's peaceful beauty can soothe the soul. :)

  2. My favorite month is November … probably because that's when the first signs of Fall appear in otherwise Hellish environs like Florida and Arizona. I'm so glad you're finding reason to savor these days. That last shadow shot is super!

  3. You have beautiful scenery in your backyard. I love October as well. Fall colors are magical - they're bright and intense for a short ( but wonderful ) period in time each year.

I really couldn't live some place where Autumn didn't exist. Your pumpkin appears to be perfectly round. I've been making all sorts of pumpkin this and that for awhile now. Pies, scones, and soups are some of my favorites.

I hope you enjoy the rest of this month, Jon.

  4. We had our first frost this morning. It has only finally got fall temps here this weekend. It is now finally time for mulled cider, and hot pies. I am loving your pumpkin pictures. I love when adults embrace Halloween.

  6. That "cheap" camera of yours takes pretty good pictures Jon! The fall is also my favorite season, probably because that's when my birthday is. Thank goodness the heat and humidity of summer is gone

  7. Since I was young I connected October with Bradbury's "October Country" --a work that nearly rivals your autumn posts, but not quite. He was a friend of my sister, Minnie, and of a frequent visitor to my house in the 70-early-80s, Ross Rocklynne. There was a magic in those people --and still, in Minnie who is happily with us yet-- and you. There is a gentle strength in October. Thank you for reminding me.

I love comments. Go ahead and leave one - I won't bite. But make sure you have a rabies shot just in case.
