NOTHING TO SAY

I've always maintained that there's nothing more annoying than a person who blogs and has nothing to say.
Then I suddenly realized that I've been blogging and saying absolutely nothing for many years.

In the throes of delusional enthusiasm, I write posts that I initially think are great - then when I re-read them, I think they're crap.

Occasionally I write about certain subjects that I've already written about numerous times (like the two previous posts about the California fires and my mother).
This bores the hell out of my regular long-time readers (I can hear them sighing in disgust), but I mostly do it for people who are new to my blog and don't know much about me.

Winter has arrived early here in the wilds of Tennessee, with cold days and frigid nights. Last Thursday (the 15th) it snowed lightly in the afternoon - fortunately no accumulation. The ravaged foliage is still stubbornly clinging to the trees.

These are my last photos for awhile. The lithium batteries on my El Cheapo digital camera died. I'll have to get more on my next venture into town.
I'm also almost completely out of all supplies. I haven't (yet) done any grocery shopping at all in November.
I plan to go to town next week - - before Thanksgiving.

I'm STILL waiting for my new contact lenses to arrive from Canada. They're supposedly on their way.......
The Big Delay (capitalized for emphasis) was caused by a Big Mistake that I made on my order form.
Moral of the story? Always read the fine print carefully.

Why Canada?
If you order contact lenses from a company in the United States, they demand that your prescription is current - and they call your optometrist to make sure that it is.

In Canada they don't give a damn and will gladly accept old prescriptions, without a validation conference with your doctor.
I think that's a marvelous business practice.

Well, I've said a lot of nothing and have nothing else to offer.
Except a few photos of my cat Bosco, which I have no doubt will thrill you.

I took these last week one morning while I was still in bed. Bosco was looking out at the frost.

  1. A picture says a lot. As long as you post photos of the cats, you'll always have something to say.

    1. I enjoy posting photos of my cats, but I always worry that it might be boring. I appreciate your vote of confidence!

  2. I enjoy reading your blog just keep posting. I may not always leave a comment most of the time I'm on my tablet and it's hard for me to type on it. I understand how you feel about your cats. I'm living alone now and if it wasn't for my cat and dogs (my dogs are outside dogs) I would be so alone. Take care.

    1. Hi, Jean - it's really good to hear from you. It's not always easy to live alone, but it's a great comfort to have cats and/or dogs for companionship. I couldn't exist without them. And they often make me laugh when I'm in a bad mood.

  3. Don't worry about it - speaking as a newcomer to your blog! I have just blogged part 1 which is a rerun of a story I wrote about a cat and blogged some years ago. As you say it is probably for newcomers but they get enough of my rubbish anyway. Here's a PS - I wish I could get my specs done in Canada!!

    1. I've enjoyed your recent cat posts.I rerun things on my blog quite often - mostly for newcomers.
I will feel much better when my contact lenses FINALLY arrive from Canada. I'm still waiting.....it seems to be taking a long time, but hopefully I'll get them next week. Mail delivery is slow in this rural area.

  4. Now I'm channeling Billy Joel … "Don't go changing, to try and please me...." We love you just the way you are. :)
Won't you please share contact info for your Canadian optician? I don't want to shell out more money right now, and 1-800CONTACTS won't renew my lens w/o a new Rx.

That last photo of Bosco is so great!

    1. Well, I just accidentally deleted my reply to your comment, so I'll try again.

I've never previously ordered contacts via the mail, this is my first try.
So far I haven't received them but they should arrive next week.

The company I ordered from is www.saveonlens.com
My lenses weren't cheap. I paid over $120 for a six-month supply (they are a monthly disposable lenses).
My contact lenses cost more than most, because I wear toric biofinity lenses for a bad astigmatism.

I will say that customer service for this company has been very kind and helpful.

    2. Bosco's eyes were glowing from the camera flash. He looks like a Halloween cat.

  5. Goodness! I'd go shopping pretty quick. It gets crazier the closer to Thanksgiving. ;) I have 12 years of nothing on my blog, so don't feel badly. :)

    1. There's nothing worse than shopping during the holiday season. I'll mostly likely go to town on Monday. I'd actually like to hibernate until spring.

I can't remember how long I've been blogging, but it was when AOL first had blogs - - which was an extremely long time ago.

  6. I stopped posting on my blog when I realized I was repeating myself. Bosco looks sweet. I'm glad to hear your new contact lenses are on the way. Don't forget the new batteries for your camera, I love your wilderness pics.

    1. Your blog posts are always interesting and I never thought you repeated yourself. I think we're too hard on ourselves (I've always been my own worst enemy) If we just keep writing what comes from our hearts we'll be all right.

  7. Hi Jon, thank you for the very kind comment you left on my blog. I often delete posts I consider too depressing - I call it the morning after syndrome. I just read your post about Scruffy. Losing a pet is like losing a good friend, so I know this must be a difficult time for you. You did everything you could to help her, so please don't be so hard on yourself. *HUGS*

I like the 2nd photo of Bosco a lot - it brought a rare smile to my face :-)

Good luck with your next shopping trip: I always feel better when I have plenty of food and supplies in the house. Take care of yourself - I'll be keeping you (and Scruffy) in my thoughts.

    1. I try to keep my blog upbeat, Dylan, but it sure isn't easy. If I ever wrote about all of my problems and revealed my depressed and dire moods - nobody would want to read it.

I feel a lot of guilt for not taking Scruffy to the vet sooner - but I don't know if it would have made any difference. She always had lots of respiratory problems and was never very healthy. I miss her so much.

I always get nervous when my supplies are low - especially now that the weather is getting cold and rotten. I also regret not living closer to town. Having to go so far is always torture.

Anyway, thanks for your sweet comment and take care.

  8. November does have a few blahs in it but I never find your posts uninteresting. As to cat photo, I'm impressed. We had a black cat years ago and I wrote in my journal, "Through a cat-shaped hole in the continuum, birds and mice disappear."

    1. I wish that my cats would chase the mice around here. Instead, they just sit back and watch me chase them....
November is passing much too quickly. I hope your Thanksgiving will be a good one!

  10. Ooh, Bosco has a very *electric* expression there, like a cat that's swallowed a light bulb! By the way I finally got around to giving the beautiful mug you designed for Zazzle to my sister in law, I was going to give it to her for her last birthday but then got something else that wouldn't keep for her. So this year it was. She was really delighted. As I thought, it was exactly her style.

    1. I think Bosco was startled by the camera flash. It gave his eyes a sinister glow.
I'm so glad that your sister-in-law liked the mug, Jenny. Thank you so much!

  11. Sometimes, you're up; sometimes, you're down. The one thing you NEVER are is boring. Keep on just the way you are.

One thing that could slow down the delivery of your lenses is a postal strike that's ongoing in Canada. The unusual way they're doing is slows down everything, but it doesn't stop service altogether. A couple books I sent to a gal up there took a looooong time to get to her.
