REMEMBRANCE

Sentimentality and discontent. Two of my many afflictions.

I made the video "Remembrance" years ago as a personal recollection of autumn here in Tennessee. After watching it recently, I was dissatified with it. So, late last night I made an updated video.

And am I satisfied? I suppose it's okay. Sort of. All of the photos were taken on my property. That pompous assessment makes me sound like a land baron. I don't like to call it a "yard". It's a monsterous forest.

The music is "The Long March" (from the album "China") by Vangelis.

I make videos for my own selfish purpose. They relax me.

The dreaded unnecessary ritual of daylight savings time doesn't relax me. I absolutely hate it. It serves no purpose other than annoying the heck out of me.

I didn't turn any of my clocks back - except for the microwave. If I turn the grandfather clock back, it messes up the chimes and takes days to straighten it out.

I made possum stew yesterday.

Just jesting. Wanted to see if you're still awake. I haven't seen a possum in my house for four days. I sealed up all the places where I think they're getting in. But I still occasionally hear them scurrying around. Often on the roof......and other places.

So what else is new?

The weather has been extremely mild. I wish it would stay this way until spring.

The annual influx of Asian Beetles have arrived. They look very similar to ladybugs but are a different color - sort of orange or tan. They're not dangerous, only annoying because hundreds of them creep into the house through windows and cracks.

That's about all the latest news around here. Everything else is tainted with complaints.

Welcome to November, Jon

    1. I wish it was. No, it's only a non-Tiffany lamp that I think is pretty. I bought it in Texas.

    2. This made me curious, so I asked The Google. I knew they were collectibles and probably costly, but WOW.

      From invaluable dot com:

Antique Tiffany lamps are sought-after today and the market remains competitive for investment-quality works. Tiffany lamps’ value can be anywhere from $4,000 to over $1 million. The most expensive Tiffany lamps sell for upwards of $1 million. The highest price ever paid for a Tiffany lamp remains $2.8 million at a Christie’s auction in 1997.

“The very best Tiffany lamps have harmoniously composed shades from a mosaic of hundreds of individually selected glass pieces,” says Andreadis. “A very good example can be acquired on today’s market in the $100,000-150,000 price range.”

    3. Thanks for the information. If my lamp was Tiffany, I'd sell it and have a new house built on this property.

  2. Love the grandfather clock. It's certainly looking like November here. The browns and grays are holding fort. Tomorrow it's to be near 80 in NE Ohio. My birthday. At the age where bedside commodes and hearing aids are on the 'wish list'. It is what it is. I like
the 'Remembrance' video. The music is so fitting. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I've had that grandfather clock for about 25 years.
The weather is unseasonably warm here - - windy and around 75. The trees are shedding quickly (much too quickly). I love the Vangelis music on the video.
Happy birthday, John! I hope you have a pleasant day. Every day is a gift.
I've lied about my age so many times in the past, that I don't even know how old I am *smile*

  4. Our grandfather clock goes on strike when we turn back the hands 😊
I'm loving this mild weather, wouldn't it be grand if it would last throughout winter, well maybe one day of snow for Christmas.
We have those pesky Asian bugs, they can bite and squirt a terrible odor if you handle them.
Beautiful video, your musical talents are endless.
    Thank you for sharing.

    1. My grandfather clock can be temperamental if I mess around with it, so it's best to leave it alone.
The autumn weather has been so mild and lovely. I wish it would stay all year long - - but I could do without the Asian bugs.
      Thanks, Jo.

  5. The audio is good on my computer. Lovely video, btw. I like being at standard time and wish we would stay there.I have my parent's grandfather clock. I let it stop and then start it again when the time it is the current time. Your clock is very nice.

    1. I finally got my audio straightened out.
I actually bought that clock for my parents because it looked good in their living room. You're right. It's best to let the clock stop at the current time and restart it.

  6. Beautiful video! Yes, very calming.
I never got so thrown off by DST when I was young. I get thrown off for like a week or so now...twice a year. AWK! This too shall pass.
I hope you have plugged all the possum holes for good. Enjoy the sweet fall weather. :)

    1. Thank you, the video calms me too.
I hope the possums will be gone for good. They've caused a lot of stress. I thought the mice were bad.....until I saw a possum exploring the kitchen sink!!!
I wish fall would stay for a few more months.
      Meow to Allie.

  7. Lovely selection as always!!!! I don't get the Asian Beetles here, but did get Lady bugs like you in my old apartment. They always congregated in numbers by the sunniest windows. If they got between the windows they often just died there, a beetle graveyard. I understand they are attached to the sun and the warmth of the glass, and also looking to seek out a water source. Once in a while I just vacuumed them up...or just waited to they all died them cleaned them up.

Possum soup! You had me for a minute, lol!!!!

  8. Those pesky Asian beetles always seem to die in the house - - especially in the window sills. This season they croaked around the front door. Hundreds of them! I always sweep them out or vacuum them up.
Who knows....maybe I'll have baked possum for Thanksgiving......*smile*

  9. I really appreciate that Myra. Sentimentality and discontent were the first two things that came to mind.
    We are kindred spirits.

  10. Good news about no possums, Jon, but bad news about the beetles. We used to have ladybug invasions when we lived in VA, thankfully short-lived ones. Thanks for the music video and I too wish that autumn would stay around longer, but now we are having spring-like temps which are not my favorite. I prefer temps in the 50-60s which make me want to enjoy a nice cup of tea and huddle under a blanket with a good read or a movie.

    1. The unseasonably warm weather inspired the Asian beetles to appear. When it starts cooling down, they will finally disappear. We also get stink bug invasions in the autumn, but this year there were very few (thank goodness).
Well, perhaps we can look forward to having a white Christmas....?

  11. The video is gorgeous and the scenery is spectacular!

I have no idea why we STILL have to adhere to daylight savings time. It is not only annoying, it is ridiculous to me. It serves no purpose what-so-ever.

    Enjoy your day, Jon!!

    1. The scenery is indeed beautiful and it never fails to be relaxing.
You're right - - daylight savings time has no purpose whatsoever, except to annoy everyone.
Hugs to the kitties, and a special one for Charlie.

I love comments. Go ahead and leave one - I won't bite. But make sure you have a rabies shot just in case.
