I write to myself, with the hopeful possibility that others will eagerly eavesdrop. I seldom have anything interesting to say. My negatives overshadow the positives.
It's early Sunday morning and Mother Nature is pulverizing this part of Tennessee. Torrential rain, savage winds. Power outages are everywhere. And there is one here in Jamestown.
At dawn I woke up in my hospital bed with a huge jolt. I think I previously mentioned that there's a special air mattress on my bed - - due to my back problems and the wounds on my ass.....I mean my butt.
Well, the power outage sucked the air completely out of my mattress. I awoke from a sound sleep lying on nothing but a metal frame!! The pain in my back was excruciating. I started yelling (extremely out of character for me).
All the people here in this facility were yelling. The old lady in the room next to me was crying (I think she's about 95).
One of the nurses came into my room and used a generator to revive the mattress. Thank God.
The power is still out. My bed is next to the window, but it's an extremely dark day. I can't see anything. I doubt if there will be any breakfast today.
I'm worried about my fragile house in the wilderness. Kind neighbors have been checking it, and that's a great relief.
The xrays for my back and hip were (finally) taken yesterday. I was surprised that they brought the xray machine into my room. More about this later......xrays don't really reveal much when it comes to back/spinal and disc problems.
So how was my Valentine's Day? (you're undoubtedly dying to know)
I got an unexpected package from my dear friend Linda in Santa Rosa, California. Cards, calendars, cartoons to cheer me up......and See's Candy. See's is the best candy in California (not to mention expensive).
I've known Linda forever. We've been very close friends since we were children. We were born one week apart....she's a week older than me. We've been very close all these years, and she knows all of my secrets (believe me, I have plenty).
The local school children brought bags of goodies for all the people here at Physical Therapyland. Candy Kisses, mints, and heart-shaped cakes. A very sweet gesture.
And how are my AI (artificial intelligence) projects going?
I know you're breathlessly waiting.
My latest efforts.
I've tried to make some romantic scenes with a cupid hovering in the sky.....but cupid looked stupid.
I tried putting some birds in flight, but they looked like they were going to crap on the people. SO, I removed cupids and birds...and everything looks good.
A sweet old-fashioned romance.
My cat pictures are looking better this time.Anyway, thanks for dropping by.
The power keeps going on and off. We were eventually served breakfast. It is starting to snow!
Jon, with luv ❤️
I have no doubt this missive enchanted you
Thank God for generators, eh? You got your mattress back and breakfast. What more could one ask for. ;) (Yes, I can be a bit cheeky at times.)
ReplyDeleteYour AI pictures look very nice to me. No clue, but I can appreciate them. :)
At least I have a mattress and breakfast. Right now the power is on, the wind died down......and it's snowing!
ReplyDeleteI've heard TN and Kentucky had some major flooding. It's been snowing and blowing all day here in NE Ohio. Temps are predicted to be near zero at night this week. I'm so done with winter. Apparently, winter isn't done with us.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your mattress got a second wind, and you got breakfast. Working in hospitals all my career we had some scary times, esp. when I worked ICU in Miami. Hurricanes, you know. Thank God for generators.
I'm glad to hear your neighbors are checking on your house. I hope it remains safe. Do you live in a flood area?
Yes, x-rays aren't the best for back issues. Have you had an MRI/CT scan? Hopefully some resolution can be found ASAP. Did the new pain meds help?
The pics are great. Of course, the cat pics are always my favorites.
Paranormal John
I couldn't imagine being in a hospital during a hurricane....what a horror.
DeleteI'm worried about toppling trees around my house. Trees are everywhere and they succumb to storms. Thankfully, I live high on a hill and there is no danger of flooding.
I've never had a MRI/CT scan.
A nurse just came in...
I'm always interrupted. The new pain pills were opioids. They made me dizzy and sick, so I'm presently refusing them. The saga continues.......
DeleteSo glad you got your bed reinflated. I know the kind of mattress you mean, dead flat when switched off. What a rugged time you continue to have. But still you post! Go you.
ReplyDeleteI was horrified when I awoke with a jolt and was on a metal frame instead of a mattress. Thought I died and went to hell *smile* 👹
DeleteMore snow is expected tonight, but at least the winds have diminished.
Hi Jon
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a hospital, rehab hospital, or any kind of place that does inpatient care without a backup system that restores power immediately when this occurs. It's necessary to be accredited. I know, I was on the accreditation board in WA for several years.
Sorry to hear of this. Are you improving otherwise? I do hope so, it must seem like an eternity it's been going on for you.
My youngest is having surgery next month, I've been occupied with that, talking with the surgeon..I was friends with his dad, a doc.
Hope you are doing as well as circumstances allow.
Take care.
I was surprised, too. The power kept going on and off for awhile - but it finally stayed on. Very unnerving for everyone here.
DeleteMy ailments aren't improving. Still have pain in my hip and back. The pressure wounds on my bottom have almost healed. They are now painless.
I'm sorry to hear your youngest has to undergo surgery. Sending prayers and positive thoughts.
Take care.
Those images you've created warmed my heart! Sometimes, I think I was (in fact, I KNOW I was) born in the wrong era!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have had nasty power outages here in Berks County, PA as well and they are expecting a very BAD winter storm yet again here this week! This horrible winter needs to GO, GO, GO AWAY!!
UGH, your poor BACK! I am glad they at least could fix your air mattress for you!!
Hopefully, you will be receiving your Hearts Day card in the mail I sent to you soon!
Take care~
- Kim
I was definitely born in the wrong era. I've always felt strangely out of place.
DeleteWinter seems to be fiercely resistant. The severe winds have diminished, but more snow is predicted.
When I woke up from a sound sleep and found myself on a metal frame instead of a mattress, I was really in shock!
Mail delivery is slow around here, but I'm sure your card will arrive soon......in a sled driven by a team of huskies.
Whoa, it sounds like you're experiencing what came through here last night. Thank God for generators! I love how your community's stepped up -- both with candy and folks who care to check on their neighbor's personal property. More so, your long-time friend, Linda. Everyone deserves a Linda in their life.
ReplyDeleteI'm always amazed at how the community here is willing to help and support each other.....despite the fact that this rural county is far below poverty level.
DeleteThank God for generators....and life-long friends.
I very seldom miss your blog entries, unless I somehow miss one. Your stories are the most interesting of any I read. Sometime even SHOCKING! I'm so sorry you have to live in such terrible pain.
ReplyDeleteDonna, I'm in a bad mood today but your comment gave me a big smile. I really appreciate your devotion - - you've been a long time blogger friend.
DeleteBy the way - - I sometimes shock myself.
I also was surprised there is no backup energy source. The orange tabby looks very much like my cat, Gatto. Same adorable face and striped tail. Hopefully the power is on today. At least you aren't on a medal frame anymore and you got breakfast!
ReplyDeleteThe power is back on. I had breakfast today and I'm not on a metal frame. What other adventures await me?
DeleteAnother winter snowstorm is expected by Tuesday night.
I like the name Gatto. Sweet.
Just when I wonder if anything could be worse, it happens, Jon. I won't rehash the experiences you already described in this post, except to say YIKES once again. It was lovely of your friend, Linda, to send you a special package and with chocolates too 😋 Also nice that the school children brought treats and thanks for sharing that kind neighbors are checking on your wilderness home as I was wondering about it and sure you were as well. We had a Sunday of snow, freezing rain and now the sun is out but it's n the 20s with a lot of wind. Like yourself, I'm indoors too.
ReplyDeleteWell, it seems like there's always some new adventure to write about. I'm always surprised at how kind and generous the people are around here, and I'm so relieved to know that people are keeping watch over my house. I'm at the edge of a forest, and trees often topple during storms. Fortunately I'm high on a hill and there's no flooding in my area.
DeleteWe have a Winter Storm Warning for Tuesday night....with heavy snow.
Spring, where are you?
Hi Jon, it’s Monday afternoon and I’m just leaving a comment. Are y’all getting snow this week? In Mid Missouri it’s 19* and snow ❄️ is on its way. Please let us know the results. Waking up to a hard, medal bed would have startled me.😬 Humor gets us through doesn’t it? Which AI do you use to create those adorable cats?🐱 I downloaded an AI to my phone but it wanted money after a few questions answered. I deleted it. There was one from China that was highly rated in my iPhone app, but I’m too leery about it. China snoops a lot anyway. Take Care Jon! We throughly enjoy your writings!
ReplyDeleteIt’s me😊
DeleteIt was a rude awakening when I woke up on a metal frame and there was no mattress! Humor is about all I have left.
DeleteThere is a Winter Storm Warning here in rural TN for Tuesday night and snow is expected. Winter seems endless....
There are dozens and dozens of AI websites, and it's almost impossible to choose. If you find one that interests you, there are probably reviews online - - and YouTube has lots of AI tutorials.
Some of the AI websites claim that they're free, but most charge a fee - monthly or yearly.
The one I'm using now is called FreePik. I have the Premium plan, which about $20 a month (?I'm not exactly sure what I paid).
It's very difficult to use AI on a cell phone (which is what I do). It's impossible to see everything on the small screen.
Thanks for your comment.
BTW I always thought Gabrielle is a beautiful name.
DeleteThank you Jon on the advice on the AI’s. I’ll look on YouTube, and search around some more to find which will benefit me most. Funny story, no lie🤣 Mamma had my two brothers and here I come along a GIRL😳 She did not want me. I’ve been in the hospital for seven days with no name. Dr. MacFarland finally came in my Mamma’s room where her and Daddy were. He said “ Peggy, you have to name this baby for the birth certificate. She was not going to do it. she told my brothers and my Aunt Joan to name me. Nobody would give their name up so my name is Gabrielle Temple Charlotte Alexandria. It was hard to spell.😹🤣 Enjoy your evening. Gabrielle
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that your beautiful name had such a negative start.
