Can you believe your eyes?
What you're seeing nowadays may not be exactly what it seems. Be very careful when you're trying to discern fact from fiction.
I never knew what AI - - or artificial intellegence - - is. In fact I never heard of it until recently.
It initially lingered in the shadows for awhile. Suddenly it emerged upon humanity, like an unbridled plague.
With the assistance of advanced technology, AI enthusiasts can now generate any conceivable image with incredibly amazing results. The fiction in your imagination can manifest itself with powerful possibilities.
There are limitless creative aspects for using AI - - some are positive but, unfortunately, much more have become negative.
In this current explosion of AL mania, it seems to have taken over just about everything.
In my unsuspicious nature, I had no idea that many of the things I'm seeing aren't real at all, but rather AI fabrications.
I've lately noticed that YouTube has literally become infested with artificial intelligence scams. Many of the thumbnails aren't real photos, they are AI generated fakes. Now AI can also generate very convincing videos, they're everywhere.
Yesterday, on YouTube, I saw a extremely realistic video showing President Trump in a fancy kitchen, cooking a gourmet dinner for his....cat. The cat is sitting on the counter, patiently watching his upcoming dinner sizzling in a frying pan.
This video got over three thousand comments. I started reading and was stunned that the majority of people who commented believed the video. Only a very few pointed out that it's an AI generated fake.
Another Trump video recently appeared. He wanders into a jungle-like area (wearing a suit and tie) to rescue a big white cat.
What's with the cats? Trump's not a cat person. I don't think he has dogs, either.
Again, the comments revealed that gullible, idiotic people genuinely believed this.
I've seen at least a dozen YouTube videos of Barron Trump singing hymns (Gospel) with an angelic voice. He was cute as heck and extremely convincing.
The comments were gushing and adoring. "What a beautiful voice! He's so talented!"
I wrote my comment.
"I hate to burst your bubble, but Barron doesn't sing. This video is an AI generated fake."
I couldn't resist.
Perhaps it's all just for fun. But duping people to believe what isn't real seems to be a travesty.

The Trump videos aren't the only ones. Loads of celebrities are showing up on fake AI videos.
And worst yet, fake news photos and videos are appearing. I have seen AI generated tornadoes and over-exaggerated earthquake damage in Asia.
Many devastating tornadoes and earthquakes have occurred recently, but bogus images should be banned.
It isn't bad enough that people are confused and misguided nowadays, without false information to enhance their ignorance.
In my opinion, artificial intelligence does more harm than good.
I have admittedly been caught up in AI mania myself, but my intentions are harmless. I only create AI images for my own pleasure. I'm not trying to fool people or sway feeble minds.
Some skeptics don't believe that artificial intelligence is a creative endeavor - - only technology does all the work.
I disagree.
You have to be creative, imaginative, and skillful to create AI images or videos.
I used the trial and error method while making my AI images.
I learned that it takes a lot of skill and creativity to utilize AI. Every minute detail is imperative in order to yield convincing results.
Example
I made this image this morning. Two nuns walking in the vicinity of an ancient church. I described the stone path they're walking on, the sparse flowers, the stone wall, the three crows. The distant landscape, the architecture of the church, the color of the sky, the glow of the light, the way the clouds should be.
It is the creation of my imagination.
The possibilities are limitless.
AI also enhances and colorizes real photos.

A tired old music box, winding down this post (no pun intended).
Jon 💛 no illusion
Jon, thanks for this very interesting discourse on AI, which I have personally never attempted. While i have not seen any of the fake AI images and videos you described, I don't doubt they exist and also that they are believed by many folks. While I agree with your comments that that there are degrees of creativity, imagination and skill, it's just not an area that interests me currently so I leave it to others for now.
ReplyDeleteIronically, I was never interested in AI when I first heard of it. Technology doesn't interest me and I thought it was all a waste of time. I have since utilized it as a hobby, just for fun. For me, it really has no purpose.
DeleteWhen AI started to become a buzzword my very first thought was of 2001: A Space Odyssey and HAL. AI has given me tremors ever since.
ReplyDeleteIt's really weird that now technology has given us the ability to create fake people and other things that seem incredibly real..It's unnerving. Will AI eventually take over everything? Hmmmm....
DeleteGREAT post, Jon. I could not have said it better myself! COMPLETELY AGREE! And you are right, people are far too gullible in today's age. If they looked close enough they could SEE the images were FAKES.
ReplyDelete- Kim
People are extremely gullible, there are not too many who can think for themselves (like you and I).I can see why Hitler had so many followers *smile*
DeleteLogical thinking seems to be a thing of the distant past.
I have the hardest time explaining to my husband some Facebook videos he's watching isn't real, it's AI. There are some even I can't tell what is real and what isn't.
ReplyDeleteI do use AI to create the headers for my blog, I enjoy doing that.
I spend a lot of time on YouTube and there are many AI things on there that I thought were real. It's often very difficult to discern between fact and fiction.
DeleteI still don't know much about AI, but I enjoy creating pictures.
All great points, Jon! Sometimes I think my middle name is 'suspicion'; that I need to lighten up ... then again, no. Videos like those you've cited are relatively harmless, but I'm scared silly at the ramifications AI might have on modern medicine ... education ... even the economy.
ReplyDeleteI think suspicion is a good thing. Don't worry about lightening up. It admittedly took me awhile to realize some of those videos were just for fun. But, I agree - - - there's a possibility that we will someday have an AI generated world.
DeleteThere was even an AI photo of Prince William's family. I don't trust a lot of what I see online anymore. I'm glad you showed the real old photo of you, though. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, there are a lot of AI creations of the Royal family. I've admittedly been fooled by many of them.
DeleteThat old photo of me was in the bottom of a metal box and it got stained by something....I don't know what. Mold? Anyway the AI reproduction is good.
Just like that black cat my maternal grandmother read tarot cards, though she never used a crystal ball. During the Great Depression granma Josie read tarot cards, read palms and tea leaves to earn money, she made a mint ! She charged ten cents for a palm reading or a tea leaf reading and twenty-fives cents for a tarot cards reading. She never gave clients a doom and gloom forecast, in those desperate times that was the last thing they needed. If the death card came up she would tell them it was just a warning to change their ways to avoid harm. In these difficult times with Trump and his incompetent administration I sometimes think of doing the same as granma Josie did during the Great Depression. AI imagery and so called guidance will be our undoing with its false narratives and arcane suggestions if not placed in its proper context.

I enjoyed hearing about your Grandmother Josie - - she was a unique ( and I'm sure colorful) individual. I like her "style".
DeleteThe world has been a very difficult and chaotic place for aeons....it's never changed. Perhaps it's better if we are subjected to AI generated false narratives. It's more satisfying than reality *smile*
Thanks for your comment.
