THANKSGIVING

One of the (many) advantages of living alone is that I can do whatever I want during the holidays. Or, preferably, do nothing at all.

I initially planned to have a nice meal for Thanksgiving - mainly because I get weary of consuming frozen pizza and French fries.

I love turkey, but decided it was too much trouble to make this time around. On my most recent shopping expedition I forgot to buy sweet potatoes. And I couldn't find cranberries or pumpkin pie anywhere.
Were they sold out, or simply non-existent?

So, I'm going to have roasted chicken with baked potatoes and green beans. And chocolate cake.

Today was cold, brisk, and gorgeous. A walk in the backyard woods yielded more opportunities for photos than I had expected.
Brilliant sunshine ignited the remaining foliage with a surprising amount of color for waning November.

The sun just rising above the forest trees.

The cow meadow adjacent to my property. Nothing much going on there.

View from the back porch.

I've admittedly been in a very dark and melancholic mood for a long time, but the beauty of nature always does its best to revive me.

Thanksgiving blessings to everyone.

  1. The beauty of natures always revives me too Jon and gives me hope. I love all seasons. I love the change of seasons. Each one seems perfectly times. Once I get tired of summer, fall arrives, then the quiet solitude of winter. This year punctuated by two weeks in California.
I'll be working at the hotel Thanksgiving so no turkey dinner for me. I love roast turkey but haven't made it in years, just too much trouble. My mouth waters when I see those Thanksgiving dinners served to the homeless and poor out of tin foil trays. I've always been tempted to join in, maybe as a server. Then I could sneak in one of those roast turkey dinners with gravy and mashed potatoes and yes, sweet potato casserole and cranberries! Happy Thanksgiving Jon!

    1. Well, you've really made me hungry for a turkey dinner, Ron. I'll think I'll get a turkey next month - probably for Christmas (I always make soup with the leftovers).
I'm always thankful that I live in a place where there is a change of seasons. Even though winter can be annoying, I still love it.

  2. Actually, your menu sounds far more appetizing to me (v. turkey and cranberry). Son phoned this morning to say there will be an additional 3 at the table (yikes! ...so I ran out and bought a roast to accompany the turkey plus more green beans.

It doesn't seem all that long ago I was so pooped tired (both mentally and physically), I chose to decline my friends' invitations. Instead, I stayed in my pjs all day, reading and consuming copious amounts of peanut butter and wine. THAT was a Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy YOUR day in a fashion you most enjoy!

    1. I'll be very satisfied with my simple Thanksgiving meal (the chicken is thawing out now as we speak...) I wanted to bake something, like pumpkin bread, but don't have any of the proper ingredients.

Now that I finally have my new contact lenses, I'll actually be able to SEE what I'm buying at the supermarket. I did buy a huge Family Size jar of peanut butter...

      Have a super Thanksgiving, Myra!

    1. It sunny here today and around 40 degrees. I let the cats outside to run around for about twenty minutes, and now they're back inside eating their chow (I'll be preparing my meal shortly)
      Have a great day!
