There is nothing more annoying than a frequent blogger. I've been blogging far too frequently lately and I harbor smidgens of guilt about it.
I haven't been replying to your comments, which makes me feel even more guilty. Be assured that I still love you. I'm simply caught up in the unconventional frenzy that has become our world, which has made me less conscientious than I usually am.
This is no ordinary Easter. Life as we once knew it has completely collapsed around us. We are struggling to cope and wondering if normalcy will ever return......
.....if, indeed, "normalcy" ever really existed.
My life has presently been reduced to wondering what style mask would be most becoming on me when I dare to venture out.
You don't think I'm really going to wear one, do you?
My dignity has been sapped by tussling with masked women in Walmart over a roll of toilet paper.
I wrote a sizzling blog post about the present situation of our nation, but (reluctantly) decided to scrap it.
I didn't want to scare any one.
Before I forget:
I was very pleasantly surprised at the favorable comments I received on my Good Friday post. Thank you!
I didn't think my video would be of much interest.
So, how was my Easter?
It's presently late afternoon. A chilly, dank, dreary day. I'm listening to the torrential rain and occasional thunder.
I had initially planned to have ham for dinner, with asparagus and sweet potatoes - but decided not to go through the trouble.
Then I planned to have chicken, but forgot to take it out of the freezer to thaw.
So, I had boneless pork chops, brown rice, and green beans - which was really good.
And I had orange cake with coffee.
Last night I watched The Wizard of Oz while eating pretzels and jelly beans.
I think I'm in my second childhood.
Or third.
Here are a few photos of Easters past - some taken when I lived in Texas.

In Texas I used to buy the Mexican eggs, which were always brightly colored
I used to bake these egg-shaped cakes. They were filled with cream and had pink, yellow, and purple flowers on top - but they were a helluva lot of trouble to make.

Belated Happy easter wishes, Jon, as it is evening as I post this comment. We had a nice quiet day chatting with friends and family online and even a group video shat, which was a bit confusing. We went for a couple of walks downtown, less crowded than a park. We self-celebrated with a dinner of ham, green beans and roasted cauliflower so all things considered it was a good day, different by good because we are feeling OK and so are the folks we spoke to today. Thanks for posting the photos of Easters gone by, as I really enjoyed the photos especially the fun ones of tulips being eaten and chicks attacked. My favorite chicks to attack at this holiday are Peeps, but sadly I didn't buy any for myself.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a perfect Easter, even though you couldn't be with your family. I'm sure you were together in spirit. And it's really good to get outside for an occasional walk.
DeleteI bought some Peeps when I was at Walmart.
Those are like egg eclairs! I've been posting too frequently too, but I'm doing it as a record of these strange times, so I'm mostly writing it for me. I certainly have plenty of time to compose 100 page blog posts, although I draw the line at that.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, do you have a current blog? The only one I found was an old one from 2007.
DeleteI do have a blog at http://teacherwoman.typepad.com. In order to comment on other sites, I had to make up a couple of faux blogs and one of those might be what you found. :)
DeleteI love seeing your treats and decorations. I still have my wooden Easter basket from childhood with one of those same little chicks inside. Maybe next year I will get in the spirit and do a photo post of Easter's past and present.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that you still have an old wooden Easter basket. I dislike the new plastic ones. I remember when I was a kid and the Easter grass was flamable and dangerous. Nowadays even that is made of plastic...
DeleteSounds pretty good. I ate the dozen Easter eggs we colored today. Well... 11 of them. Cheryl ate one so I'm not a total glutton. Windy rainy and cold... and our outdoor cat "surprised us" by catching the Easter bunny... Literally. Kinda freaked out Cheryl but Hiro( the other cat) was over-joyed! We stopped it just before they ate it. But gave them both lots of happy pets for being murderers. Cats are very strange. Happy Easter! I would have probably enjoyed your apocalyptic world post. I had to avoid writing one myself. Talk about dark therapy!
ReplyDeleteI'm soooo tempted to post a political rant....but I don't want to induce hysteria (*smile*).
DeleteGood grief! My cats only catch mice. I doubt if they could handle the Easter Bunny.
Love all your sweet easter decorations. your impromptu meal sounds yummy. i will tell you my mouth is watering over that orange cake. when i was growing up, my mother made sure i had orange cake every single time my birthday rolled around. since i'm old now, it's been years since i had an orange slice. yours looks scrumptious. Happy Belated Easter.
ReplyDeleteI used to bake a loaf of orange bread every Easter. I probably still have the recipe somewhere....but orange cake is just as good!
DeleteOh to go back to the days of eating Easter Eggs and not even feeling guilty for pinching/accepting my Dads. It is years since I had one but I guess it's my own fault.
ReplyDeleteIt's been years since I had Easter Eggs, too - but I still enjoy the memories. I hope your Easter was pleasant, Valerie.
DeleteGlad to hear (that) despite your lethargy, you fashioned a pleasant Easter. That orange cake looks amazing! We were able to enjoy a roast dinner before taking our weatherman's advice and hunkering down. BTW, I had 9 likes on your video (shared on my FB) - including my pastor and her husband. One wrote, "So inspiring and deeply moving. Happy Easter and thank you for sharing with us."
ReplyDeleteMyra, many thanks for sharing my Good Friday video. It's really very touching to know it received favorable responses.
DeleteI just had some leftovers, but I had two video calls from the boys. :)
ReplyDeleteLeftovers sound good enough to me! And video calls are truly a great way to share and keep in touch.
DeleteOh my gosh Jon, that giant Easter rabbit looks like something out of a nightmare! You were a darling little boy.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your sizzling rant, I know it will be hilarious!
♥️♥️♥️Susan
I was such a naive and trusting child that I never realized the bunny might have an intention to kill.
ReplyDeleteI'm always very hesitant to post my political rants because I know 90 per cent of my readers will HATE my opinions (and I don't mean you.....)
