Well, I think I finally conquered the nightmarish "new improved" Blogger. I even figured out how to post my own background images (it was easy to do on the old Blogger, but it's a helluva lot more difficult on the new one).
So I'm happy. Or as reasonably happy as I tend to get. Let's all hold hands and pray that another "new improved Blogger" will not be in the near future.
The black box was hidden in the garage. It contains my old, old Halloween stuff - some of it over thirty-five years old.
On the first day of autumn I decided to drag it into the house and look through it. When I opened the lid, the first thing I saw were two live mice!
I quickly dragged the box out on the front porch, emptied the contents, and let the mice run away. Then I thoroughly cleaned the box.
Question:
How did a pair of rodents get into a sealed plastic box?
There's nothing particularly interesting or exciting about this story (except for the two mice). I simply decided to put out a few Halloween items this year instead of letting them rot in the garage.
Photos, anyone?
- Old Halloween clock. The spindle thing at the top is missing. It looks better in real.
Why does Bosco keep jumping up on places where he doesn't belong? I don't have the heart to kill him - - but I've thought about it....
It was fun to look at some of your Halloween decorations. That antique Russian Wolfhound though! As for the 2 mice....they must have had ghostly connections.
ReplyDeleteOr perhaps you have the mouse totem. [mice as spirit animals]. They might have been familiars. Most likely they were early Halloween cat treats that you released back into the mysterious wild that is all around you. Truth is, I have no idea how those 2 mice got into your sealed plastic storage box but if you ever figure it out let me know so I can stop filling my head with bad fiction. Did you scream? Of course not! I would have screamed! Waiting impatiently, of course, to hear your ghost story experiences! ๐งก ๐ป ๐ ๐ ๐งก
Somehow it seemed appropriate to find the mice in the Halloween box. Mice have the ability to squeeze into extremely small cracks. I'm thinking that the box lid wasn't as tightly secured as I assumed it was.
DeleteIt would take a lot more than a couple of mice to make me scream. But I did gasp with surprise...
Ghost stories, yes. I love your decorations. I'm doing Fall but not Halloween this year. I have that same ceramic pumpkin! And my black cat is often where she's not supposed to be as well. She's lucky that I love her.
ReplyDeleteNow that I live all alone I'm not too keen on putting up decorations - but sometimes they make me feel good.
DeleteMy 15 year old cat Scratch has always been well-behaved. Six-year-old Bosco is unnervingly rowdy.
My ghost stories are in the very near future...
my heart be still. love, love your halloween decor. i'm partial to the cats, including bosco. but that license plate is pretty impressive too. glad those mice ran away.good question, how in the hell did they get inside a sealed plastic box.
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling you'd like my Halloween decor. I love cats and owls. I'm thinking that the lid to the box wasn't quite as secure as I initially thought. The mice must have squeezed in a tiny crack. They couldn't have been there very long because there was no mess and no mouse poop.
DeleteLOVE your Halloween treasures ... but more so, your new background! Ghost stories? Yes, please!
ReplyDeleteI have a lot more Halloween stuff. If I ever put it all out, my house would look like the Addams family house.
DeleteI'll reveal my ghost stories in the next two posts...
Early Halloween? What the heck. It's 2020 and nothing is normal--LOL! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm usually late doing everything, so I figured I'd try to be early this year. The stores are already displaying some Christmas items - which is really scary!
DeleteI absolutely LOVE your Halloween decorations ... and your feline beauties!! I am still having trouble trying to navigate the new blogger crap, but I am trying my best! I lost my links on my blog roll which no longer work so I have to use the links from comments left on my post. sigh ... HAPPY HAPPY FALL, my dear friend!!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteAutumn and Halloween have always been my favorite time of year. I didn't buy any pumpkins yet, but plan to this week.
DeleteI almost gave up blogging due to the new blogger nightmare. They made EVERYTHING more difficult than it used to be.
Exactly correct you are. And so unecessary.
DeleteOh and YES - PLESASE share your ghost first hand ghost stores! Would love to hear about them!!
ReplyDeleteMy next two posts will have ghost stories.
DeleteMice do have a way of getting into small spaces as your post proves and glad that didn't cause any damage to your decos, Jon. I decorate for autumn vs. Halloween although I do have a lot of paper bat cut-outs on the walls outside our apt entry. A neighbor made them last year and plastered them on our door. She had since moved away, but I re-posted in her honor this year. They will come down after 10/31. And, yes a good ghost story is always welcomed!
ReplyDeleteI never knew anything about mice until I moved to this rural area. They are extremely destructive and can wiggle their way through the smallest cracks imaginable.
Deletemy enthusiasm for holiday decorating has waned drastically now that I live alone - yet it still provides some sense of satisfaction.
I always enjoy seeing your treasures. A Halloween clock is new to me!
