OCTOBER INTERLUDE

October. My favorite month. Always was, always will be. On the 12th of this month, I'll have been in Tennessee six years. Six.

It's ironic that I moved from California to the Missouri Ozarks in October. And I moved from Missouri to Texas in October. These October moves weren't purposely planned. They just happened.

This is a magical month, the most beautiful time of the year. Mellow, peaceful, nostalgic....and for me it casts a bittersweet spell of  intense sentimentality and melancholy. I love to see a change of seasons - - something I never had in California or Texas.

October captures the essence of my being - - I have an autumnal soul.

Have I said enough? The words always spill out before I have time to think. This sometimes gets me into trouble.

change of subject

I haven't used my new cell phone to take photos or videos yet. But I will. Hopefully soon.

Until then, I've captured the first few days of October with my El Cheapo (Kodak Easy Share) camera.

Evening on the first day of October. The nights have been chilly.

The dot in the lower part of photo is the setting sun.

Went to town last Friday and got a pumpkin at Walmart. That's the only place that has them (so far). Hopefully the supermarket will get some soon.

Bosco was fascinated by the pumpkin.

(I love how the long shadows look in October)

Kitzee (also known as Scratch) is enjoying the mild sunshine.

Why does she have two names?

I named her Scratch, but my mother always called her Kitzee.

  1. Fall is also my favorite season, although I love them all for different reasons.

  3. That pumpkin is the exact size and shape of the one sitting next to me. A perfect pumpkin. Pretty pictures of the sky. When I was driving home Friday night, I couldn’t believe how beautiful the clouds were with a pink sky behind.

  4. Definitely fall up here, too. We had frost warnings again. Too early for that.
Lovely photos and I always enjoy seeing your furbabies. ;)

  6. El-Cheapo or not, these are beautiful images! I'm envious of your beautiful pumpkin; those at the market mostly resemble giant tumors ... ugh!

  7. It's good to read and see that the month of October holds good thoughts for you, Jon. No need to apologize about your fondness for the month and season. It's my favorite time of year as well for the cooler temps, beautiful colors, and great foods. In years past, we would get several pumpkins and carve them to put on our front porch 🎃(when we had one). Are you planning to do the same with yours? Of course, a pumpkin pie is another very tasty alternative. I had some canned pumpkin for that treat this month. Your el cheapo camera did very well, looking forward to seeing photos from your new cell phone.

I love comments. Go ahead and leave one - I won't bite. But make sure you have a rabies shot just in case.
