RAIN-DRENCHED WEEKEND

First day of Passover.
No, I'm not Jewish - but the Passover season has a special personal meaning for me. No need to elaborate.

Erratic weather. March (much like my life) has been filled with major inconsistencies. Storms and a Tornado Watch last Thursday night.
Friday was sunny, mild, and 70 degrees (Fahrenheit, for those of you in Mozambique).

Today (Saturday) was chilly (in the 50s) and perpetually stormy. Thunder and heavy rain all day. One brief power outage. Thank goodness it was brief. I have dinner in the slow cooker.

Warm, sunny thoughts of Easter and spring - - mingled with dark, stormy personal worries. My mind is annoyingly contradictory....like the weather.

Photos to ponder

I noticed yesterday (Friday, the mild day) that some of the trees are beginning to blossom.  That would be wonderful news, but the blossoms in my neck of the woods are ALWAYS killed by late frosts. Happens every year.

A view from my front porch. Those hills over yonder will be completely obscured once the trees get their leaves. In the summer you'd never know the hills were there.

Kitzee and Bosco yesterday on the back porch, savoring the 70 degree weather.

Kitzee (left) will be sixteen yrs. old this summer. Bosco will be seven in April.

Today my mystical back yard is drenched in fog and rain. A stark contrast from yesterday.

  1. We have had a beautiful couple days (not 70s but perhaps 60). Tomorrow there's a 100% chance of rain. They're not even hedging their bets; that's how sure they are. My cat loves basking in the sun like a hairy lizard.

    1. It's been raining here for a week, but today (Sunday) it finally stopped. It must be heading your way. The cats just love basking in the sun...and I don't blame them. The back porch is sunny in the morning but gets shady before noon.

  2. Very telling pics. We had basically a few beautiful warm but very windy days now the nasty rain comes - guess you could say that is typical of our spring weather here in my area.

Happy early birthdays to your precious, beautiful fellas! Bless their little hearts - the oldest cat we ever had was a female Maine Coon named Sabrina and she lived to be 17 years old.

    1. I think March is the most annoying month when it comes to inconsistent weather. Warm one day and chilly the next. The rain has finally stopped here - after an incredibly wet week.

My Aunt Ann (my cousin Nancy's mother) had a cat that lived to be over 20. Nancy and I gave her the kitten one summer when we were seventeen. The cat was still living when Nancy and I were pushing forty!!

  3. Wow, I can't believe Bosco's 7 y/o already! Time is a thief.
I've LOVING those images of the fog. As long as I don't have to drive, it's in my Top 3 favorites of Mother Nature's whims. Still raining here, but thank goodness the violent tornados are gone. Our trees' blossoms really took a beating. As terrified as I've also been about tornados (and snakes), I can't believe I chose to live here. Heck, ANYthing is better than the Phoenix desert.

    1. Whoops ... that should read, "ALWAYS been about tornadoes."

    2. I love those photos of the foggy/rainy forest that I took yesterday. Looks like Halloween...
The storms and rain have finally stopped (on Sunday) afternoon. I'm glad that all of us survived. Despite the rotten weather and endless inconveniences, I still enjoy living in a place where there is a change of seasons.

  4. It's 39 degrees today but tomorrow is supposed to get up to 69! Crazy warm.
Annie is around 15 years old. I asked Leah last week and she sat and figured it out--estimate because she was a street rescue. I sure hope she's with me many more years and your guys, too! :)

    1. Annie looks healthy and happy - I'm sure she'll be around a long time. A friend of mine in California had a cat that lived to be 23 years old. And my Aunt Ann (cousin Nancy's mother) had a cat that lived over 20 years.

  5. Dear Jon, I have 2 cats with Kitzee's lovely tuxedo markings and 2 more with Bosco's ability to be a fur-bearing shadow. I sure hope no more homes are sadly vacated in the Vineyard and this parade of needy cats subsides.

    1. Those abandoned cats can sense that they are in friendly and gracious territory with you and Norma. I hope they are spayed and neutered, or you'll soon have a surplus of feline friends.

  6. Hey, At least you have a little color other than green and brown. I imagine the dandelions will be popping out in a week or two. After this winter, Cheryl says prepare for a late snow. In fact, three years ago, we have pictures where there is at least 6-8 inches on the ground. Iowa is about as odd as Michigan was... only slightly different weather patterns.

    1. I don't think our fledgling blossoms will last long. It's supposed to drop into the 20s at night later this week. Hopefully no snow!

  7. Nice weather here too Jon here in southern coastal Delaware. Always enjoy your photos, especially of Kitzee and Bosco. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thanks, Ron - I'm glad that winter is finally over (I hope!) and we can look forward to milder weather.
Ironically, I just sent you an email about three minutes ago.
