RACCOON MANIA

I haven't made a video for YouTube in a long time.
In order to maintain what's left of my sanity - - and possibly to expunge the memory of my previous blog post - - I made a new video last night.

Knowing that most of you have absolutely no interest in classical music (an epic tragedy), I chose a popular song from 1928.

What I learned from devising this video, is that it's nearly impossible to find decent visuals of raccoons and raccoon coats. I had to use what I could find - which wasn't much.

Despite my minimal creativity, I know you'll be enthralled.

  1. Dear Jon, I found the video delightful, even though our local raccoons just growl at me. My sister in Hacienda Heights has friendly raccoons, but I think her taxes are higher than mine. I've had to walk with a cane these past few months --especially at night-- so maybe they feel threatened. You take care.

    1. Geo, the raccoons in my neighborhood are nasty and extremely destructive. The sweet 'coons on the video seem to be a myth. I am very tempted to start making raccoon coats.......take care - - and keep your cane handy.

  2. I for one love classical music. Everything from Mozart to Benjamin Britten and you can throw in some Wagner and French baroque opera, too. My favorite operas are the bel canto.....Norma, Lucia de Lammermoor and Anna Bolena. Right now, I'm listening to Giovanna D'Arco with Caballe and Domingo. My favorite female voice is the contralto.
I've always heard racoons were rather nasty and are right under bats for carrying rabies. Yikes! I'll stick to dogs and cats. I also think the 'cuteness' is mythology.

    1. Bravo, John! I love all realms of opera - I heard my first opera on the MET radio broadcast when I was thirteen and I was hooked. Opera is one of the few things that can completely relax me when I'm depressed (and ballet).
Raccoons can be nasty and destructive - - I know from firsthand experience.

  3. I'd never heard this song but sure enjoyed it ... trying to 'do the raccoon' gimpy hips and all. It reminds me of the theme from Thoroughly Modern Millie ('... check your personality!')
Fortunately, I've never had a dog attacked by a raccoon like my friend in Florida. Now I'm wondering if anyone's been successful raising them in captivity as pets.

    1. I used to have a record album with songs from the 1920s and I absolutely loved it. They don't make songs like that anymore - they were so creative back then.

Despite the fact that raccoons are often portrayed as cute and cuddly, they can be downright vicious and destructive. I wouldn't want one for a pet....

  4. It is hard to believe that anyone would want to wear "raccoon" skin/fur. I have honestly never heard of it before.

And for the record Jon I, for one, thoroughly enjoy most classical music!!

    1. Raccoon coats were popular in the 1920s,especially with college and university students. It must have taken a LOT of raccoons to make one.
I'm delighted to know you like classical music!

    2. When my grandfather passed, we found a racoon coat he had. And there was no saving it. I could never understand having a racoon coat or beaver. Such course fur compared to mink or fox. Even rabbit.

  5. The photos you did manage to find online, Jon, were great finds so don’t berate yourself too much. I know how difficult it can be to find vintage ones to illustrate a post/video from having spent much time doing so. I enjoyed the ragtime music as well. My preferences are wide, except for opera, so we disagree on that genre.

    1. I always try to use copyright-free visuals, which always makes my search rather frustrating. I began listening to opera at an early age, which probably accounts for my passion for it. I'm also a ragtime enthusiast - it is fun to perform and surprisingly intricate and complex.

  6. Huh, excuse me, I love classical music!!!!! Your always creative with these videos I must say. Sorry for delay, but it took me an age to access your blog since yesterday. I don't know what's going on with blogger, but it could be why you're not getting comments of late. I have had a time trying to get blog to even load yet comment.

Shall we grab a drink sweet cheeks?

    1. I know that you appreciate a wide range of music (like I do).
Blogger is completely unpredictable and extremely frustrating. Sometimes everything seems to be working, and suddenly things go completely crazy. I do get complaints from people who have trouble leaving comments.

  7. I love that kind of music. Have you heard jack hylton singing Egyptian Ella ?I believe she was based on a real person- when my parents were young they were in Cairo and would go for drinks in the Mena Palace Hotel right under the Pyramids.... and there she was.

    1. I love that kind of music, too. I'm familiar with Jack Hylton but never heard of Egyptian Ella. I just found a video of Ted Lewis singing it on YouTube and it was unique and entertaining.

I love comments. Go ahead and leave one - I won't bite. But make sure you have a rabies shot just in case.
