This month marks the eighth year I've been in Tennessee. It seems more like eighty years, but that's beside the point.
October, of course, is my favorite month. Despite the endless inconveniences of rural life, I admittedly savor the peace and beauty of the surrounding forest - especially in autumn's embrace.
During the time that I've been here, the colorful autumn foliage always peaked at the end of October - usually around Halloween. This year nature's glorious exhibition is appearing surprisingly early.
My most inspiring annual passion are my long autumnal walks through the backyard forest. Unfortunately, this year my walks are annoyingly impeded for two reasons - -
my physical spinal ailments make walking extremely difficult.
And my property is presently completely over-run with wild weeds, obstinate vines, dangerously sharp thorn bushes, and brush that has grown fifteen feet high due to excessive rain.
There are also many trees that have been toppled due to storms, which rudely block many of my usual walking paths.
Yesterday afternoon was so lovely that I wandered outside with my El Cheapo ancient digital camera and took a few photos. I only stayed very near the house. I plan to venture (with camera) in the forest on another day - before the foliage fades.
I took this photo of Bosco early yesterday morning while I was still in bed.
Wait a minute - -
let's go into the house and visit the kitchen - -
Have you ever seen a can of evaporated milk this HUGE? It's a whopping 97 ounces - one of my recent online Walmart orders.
Unfortunately I just realized that once the can is opened, the milk spoils in a few days. I'll have to transfer it to some sort of glass container. And I can freeze some.
A tin of Harney & Sons tea (next to my haunted house mug)
If you want to be pleasantly accosted by aggressive cinnamon, try it.
Just when I think there's no tea made that will satisfy my (coffee-addicted) taste buds ... you had me at cinnamon! I'm putting that in next week's cart.
ReplyDeleteFor an 'el-Cheapo' camera, you've again captured my autumnal-loving senses. Central Alabama's trying to get with the program but so far, it's pretty lame. Love this image of Bosco!
I was initially unsure about purchasing that tea, but I was very pleasantly surprised when I tried it. I also like the old-fashioned tin that it comes in (twenty bags of tea).
DeleteI'm eager to go out and take more autumnal photos, before the beauty fades.
I took that photo of Bosco with my cell phone while I was in bed.
Like yourself, Jon, I am a fan of autumn not only for its colorful displays, but cooler temps. Of course, today will be near 70 degrees, so an exception. While, it is great that you have such colors in the front and back “yards” it’s unfortunate your explorations are not easy due to terrain and body limits. That said, thanks for these images and hope you can get more before they are gone. After a day of heavy rain here yesterday, I am sure many trees here have fewer leaves. I like tea and cinnamon, but do not shop at WM so will look elsewhere for the one you mentioned as it sound perfect for autumn.
ReplyDeleteWe've been getting a lot of wind and rain, which I'm hoping won't spoil the colorful foliage. Next week will be very cool with nightly frost. October is passing much too quickly.
DeleteI'm sure you'll be able to find the tea online. My sole reason for shopping at Walmart is because they're one of the few places that delivers out here in the boonies.
Just found a large selection of Harney & Sons teas on Amazon and you are right about the tins too…lots of them!
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard of Harney & Sons until recently. Their tea tins are intriguing - and I do like the Hot Cinnamon Sunset tea.
DeleteYour autumn photos turned out GORGEOUS! And that pic of Bosco is beautiful! What a lovely silhouette.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for some good weather so I can venture in the forest and take more pictures. Recently it's been rainy and windy. The Bosco photo is perfect for autumn.
DeleteYour pictures are beautiful. Autumn here in Ohio is quite awesome this year. The colors are so vibrant, and the temps have been mild. I hear it's to be a doozy of a winter, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on that tea. I'll see if it's carried locally in the stores, if not I'll get on-line and order some. Cinnamon makes my socks go north and south. One of my fav's.
Paranormal John
It's supposed to get unseasonably cold here next week - - in the low 20s tomorrow night (Monday). I'm not sure if I'm ready for it. I've never seen Harney & Sons tea in stores, but I'm sure some stores must carry it. I'm presently hooked on the hot cinnamon tea and will probably order it again.
DeleteLove the pic of your cat and the colours on your yards! What an explosion of colours! Lovely photos
ReplyDeleteThank you, Alex. October is remarkably beautiful this year.
DeleteI love the photo of Bosco against the orange tree! You have so many gorgeous trees there. Too bad you can't walk around the land easily. I prefer coffee to tea, but have my rare tea moments...usually white tea or jasmine or chamomile. Plain. I think I love the ritual more than the tea--LOL! ;)
ReplyDeleteThat photo of Bosco is one of my autumn favorites. I like coffee but I've always been a tea addict. I like jasmine tea but haven't had it in quite awhile. It's seldom available in stores but I'm sure I could get it online.
