So, why haven't I posted Part Three of my notorious interview?
We all need a rest. A break. An intermission. Heck, I don't want to inflict you with too much of a good thing all at once. My potent essence is more successfully absorbed in small doses.
Three will arrive soon.
So what's been going on in my life lately?
Heat, rain, bugs, humidity, insomnia, pain, weeds, cats, mice, rain, mud, anxiety, rain,'possums, coyotes, big bugs, massive weeds, rain, wasp nests, killer wasps (chasing me), gnats, gnats, gnats. Tick bites.
Did I mention rain?
I took time off from this impressive agenda to drive to town last Monday. I haven't gone in a month. A month!
Surprisingly, I didn't run out of anything.
I'm still working on my online store....which should be ready to open before I'm dead. I hope.
I'm actually aiming for July 4th - but that might be pressing my luck.
These past few evenings have offered spectacular sunsets. The problem is you can't see them very well due to all the trees and hills.
When I go out to photograph them I usually just snap pics from the front porch.
The only other place I can go is up a steep embankment near the woods behind the house. Which I seldom do.
I love to lie (lay?) in bed at sunset and watch the sky through the window. Right after dark the lightning bugs start their beautiful show.
Here are a few pics taken last evening:
My bedroom window. Taken while I'm lying (laying?) in bed.
(I knew this would really impress you)
Just to show you how DARK it is here at night. This is the front porch last night.
(and it's even DARKER in back of the house by the woods...). You can imagine what it's like during a power outage.
That's how it looks in daylight.
Every evening, Bosco sits on this chest of drawers and watches the sunset out the window. He never misses it.
Have you considered getting layed/laid? :)
ReplyDeleteIf I had a dollar for every time I got laid (layed?) I'd make Warren Buffett look like a pauper. I'm taking a breather (intermission) here in the TN wilderness...
Delete.....unless I encounter some needy loggers...
I can see why Bosco never misses the sunsets! Wow!!
ReplyDeleteYour porch is so inviting, BTW.
Good luck with the online store. :)
I really like the front porch, but every time I sit out there I get attacked by wasps and/or bees. It's really nice out there on summer nights, because - surprisingly - there are few mosquitoes (and the wasps are asleep...)
DeleteJon, the photos are superb. As for insects --especially WASPS-- you'd not escape them here in California. We are having the awfullest summer heat ever, or at least in my experience of even awfuller heat --for which amnesia is an accurate memory. Stay hydrated. I recommend Guinness Extra Stout, which probably has some water in it.
ReplyDeleteFortunately the heat isn't nearly as bad here as it is in the wild west where you are. The humidity is intense, however, and the bugs provide untold hours of agony. The rain annoys me more than anything because it seldom stops....
DeleteJust visiting from 3 days into the future --you know I'm not nervous about time travel-- and wanted to wish you a happy hiatus. Made me realize I haven't taken a break from blogging for 9 years, tempus fugit --or, time flies, from line 284, vol.3 of Virgil's "Georgics" (to which Geo. is phonetically related). Or maybe it's "tempus fuggit", so long ago I can't recall. But above all, hope all goes restfully and happily --not protractedly-- and I look forward to the pleasure of your renewed company. Your posts, yes even your rants, reflect an honesty and sincerity that I find refreshing in this strange century. Don't stay away too long, ok?
DeleteI'm so taken with Bosco's ritual! If only we could read their thoughts ...
ReplyDeleteThese photos? I've no words ...and this, from a photo? I get goosebumps trying to imagine what it's like watching that spectacle in person, free-for-nothing!
Can't wait for the grand opening of your cyber shop!
I put a towel on that chest of drawers, because Bosco loves to lay (lie?) there and gaze out the window. The sunsets fascinate him. Black cats are truly mysterious. I never know what he's "thinking".
DeleteI also never dreamed I'd open an online store. I'm mostly doing it because it's lots of fun designing the products and using my (somewhat limited) creative abilities.
You sure do live in a beautiful part of the country Jon. Those sunsets, the sky is on fire. Your porch looks very inviting. I don't know how you manage to only go to the store once a month. I barely make it two days without paying a visit to my favorite supermarket, Food Lion. Jon, I am so glad you were able to get out of Texas and that desolate landscape.
ReplyDeleteAlways appreciate your photos of your life Jon.
Ron
Ron, to be honest I have been depressed ever since I left good ol' California - but of all the places I've lived since then, I like Tennessee the best. Now that I'm older, I dislike big cities. I love the peace and privacy of a rural area.
DeleteBeautiful and also like the porch with swing. Nice place for a cup of coffee in the morning. Send rain if you get too much.
ReplyDeleteThe front porch is a great place to have a morning cup of coffee - as long as the wasps leave me alone!
DeleteWe are getting FAR too much rain. I'll send some your way.
Beautiful pictures and I love your front porch. You will have to get you a bug light to kill the bugs so you can sit out and enjoy the weather. It has been raining here for the past week the sun came out this afternoon so maybe we will be okay for a few days. Take care, Jean.
ReplyDeleteMy father always used to use citronella candles outdoors. Maybe I'll try one of those.
DeleteIt always rains here very often, but this year seems to be particularly wet. I wouldn't really mind it except for the fact that the HUGE weeds grow overnight! I can't control them.
how sweet you and bosco share the sunset every night. it's a glorious thing. all that color painting the sky. glad to hear this months trip down the mountain didn't do you in.
ReplyDeleteI love being surrounded by trees and nature, but it's also annoying because it obscures the beautiful sunsets (and the sunrise). Bosco really seems to appreciate those flaming colors in the evening sky. It seems to soothe him (just as it soothes me).
ReplyDeleteWow, wow, wow!!! Those sunset pics are beyond beautiful. No wonder you and Bosco watch them every night.
ReplyDeleteThe photos don't really do it justice. I'd have to climb on the roof to get a great view of the sunsets.
Delete(don't worry - - I won't....)
Sorry that I'm always late to respond ( usually ) since I don't know you've posted until that email notification arrives a day later. That is a remarkable sky - it's no wonder it gives you peace. Very calming. Online store, now that's interesting.
ReplyDeletePS - thank you for the answer to my question on your previous post. Moving is a huge hassle, not to mention the expense, and honestly, living where you are looks pretty good to me.
Better late than never, Helga. I greatly appreciate those brave souls who still take the time to read my rambles. It seems like every time I write something, somebody gets offended. My readership has dwindled drastically....
DeleteOne of my biggest regrets is that I moved so many times during my lifetime. It is definitely an expensive hassle. I'm quite content where I am now (despite the inconveniences).
Maybe I wouldn't have quite expressed it that way, but Jimmy asked the question, that I didn't know how to ask. A breather is a good thing sometimes, particularly after times of excess but don't leave it too long! MaggieB
ReplyDeleteMy colorful life of excess and wild adventures is definitely over. I'm presently in a well-deserved Intermission Mode......but it won't last forever.
DeleteHeck, I'm not dead yet...
(???)
I havent been in blogland lately. See you are on vacation. Enjoy!!
