And God looked down on rural Tennessee and saw Jon in the Wilderness. And God said:
"I'm going to fix that bastard and give him more problems than he already has."
God's word was good, and it came to pass.
As if I didn't have enough problems, yesterday my stove and refrigerator went awry at the same time.
Both of these appliances were left here by the previous owners. I generally don't like to use left-overs, but they worked fine so I decided to keep them.
The refrigerator, however, has always acted weird and constantly makes ungodly noises that can only be described as death howls from Satan.
Yesterday I noticed that the refrigerator lost nearly all its power and things were unnervingly warm inside.
Admittedly, it was packed to capacity. For the first time in my life I really stocked up on food. I have vegetables, cheese, ham, salami, several pies, lasagna, fish, pork chops, three (yes, three) chickens, and two roasts which I plan to make in the new slow cooker.
There was absolutely no breathing room in the fridge, so I cleared some things out and it seems to be working normally again. Knock wood....
The problem with the stove is a long story that I won't bore you with. After several tedious hours, I got it working again - - all except for one burner, which I'll try to fix tomorrow.
I can afford to buy new appliances but am reluctant to delve into my savings. I'll wait until abject desperation inspires me to do otherwise.....
Yesterday afternoon I plodded outside into the forest again to take a few more photos. There's not much to see, but I wanted to document these last autumnal days.
The weather is mild again and much of the foliage is still lingering.
My house is visible through a jungle of trees.
Yikes, Jon on the 2 appliances crapping out at the same time. Maybe the fridge was just “surprised” at the overload and hope you didn’t lose any food in unloading it as no one likes that prospect. Good news to on getting the stove working, except for the 1 burner. Living in an apt, the appliances here are not our own, which is good and bad. They would not be our choice if buying them, but if they fail, we just notify management and thankfully have not had to do that, so far. Great to see more of the colors in your personal forest!
ReplyDeleteYikes! I've heard that it's very difficult to procure refrigerators these days. So, be prepared! People are evidently stocking up. Since mine is 24 years old, I'm a bit nervous about this. 2020 hasn't exactly been full of good luck.
ReplyDeleteI really do hope they keep working for you! For a long time!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous woods around you. :)
When we first got in our apartment, we rarely used the fridge for anything. We though it was fine, because the freezer worked way too good. Turns out, the coolant was going totally to the top freezer and none of it was going to the fridge. We did not discover this until our cheese and bread went moldy! Thankfully the landlords were cool about replacing it. We have been using the fridge quite a bit this year. Terrible 2020!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you've the wherewithal to trouble-shoot and repair those appliances. My expertise extends to a swift kick ... or, the occasional unplug and plug back in. (LOL) Besides the cost, appliance shopping is incredibly B-O-R-I-N-G.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't fridges always go wrong when you can't get another one easily. At least winter is coming and hopefully you'll be able to store some of the stuff outside. How on earth will you eat three chickens though? I am sure the cats will do their best, but even they will have their limits! :)
ReplyDeleteYour pics got lovely - such beautiful bright colors, too! I am glad you were able to save most of your appliances. Our stove was also in our house since we moved in 25 years ago! Needless to say that the stove and oven have not worked for years and I did not use it near enough to care. Anyhow, we use the microwave and Air Fryer oven and such now.
ReplyDeleteDear Jon, hope repair progress progresses apace. Please excuse my tardy comment --I've been hiding under my bed all week.
