SILENCE

Silence......
.....the pure realms of undiluted silence that resonate in our weary souls and dare to  manifest at inopportune times when we least expect it.

We listen in blissful amazement and suddenly remember all of the positives that were deeply buried in a living grave of devastating negativity and useless complexities.
As if we never knew it, the silence was there all the while - waiting patiently in the unexpected harbor of astonishing simplicity.

The soothing balm of autumnal sunshine, the limitless possibilities of unblemished skies - nature's blessings resurrect our souls and expunge the stagnation and decay.

We are assuaged by the reassuring breath of the wind, as it rustles treetops with restless whispers in a breathless chorus of sacred song.

Dead leaves crunch in protest underfoot - - and overhead, clusters of blushing  leaves still cling timidly to trembling branches.

The uncertainty of our transitory existence seems to diminish in this great expanse of ceaseless nature, and the futile complexities of our lives become less urgent, more insignificant.

If we listen carefully, the silence will eventually confirm the validity of all that we once knew and reveal the truth of everything that we refused to accept.

Listen to the humbling voice of sacred silence.

The weather today was perfect. Nearly 80 degrees (Fahrenheit). The autumn foliage was in full glory. I ventured outside, accompanied by my camera.......

The jack-o-lantern is getting moldy,
 had to put him
outside

Late afternoon forest mists and ghosts

Row of acorns on a branch (or twig)

Nice try, but too many shadows (above)

It was a breezy day. Rustling leaves are difficult to photograph.

Are the photos too large? Probably.
But I personally hate tiny fonts and tiny photos.

NOTE:
I wrote this post several days ago. When I published it on Blogger it suddenly disappeared, along with some other posts.
I don't know what happened, but I had to do the whole dang thing over again - from memory.
It wasn't easy.

  1. The pictures in your post turned out to be placed really nicely. I don't get to go out in the woods these days, so I really enjoy your woods pictures. The words "assuaged by the reassuring breath of the wind" are a perfect description of the way it feels to be walking in the woods on a breezy Indian Summer day.

In my yard this time of year on cool breezy days there is always the scent of freshly sliced apples. Strange, since there are no apple trees in sight anywhere. I have decided that it must be the scent of all of the persimmons ripening on our persimmon tree and all around on the ground, even though persimmons don't really smell like apples.

I hope you will have some interesting critters come to snack on the jack o lantern you put outside.

  3. Jon, this has touched my soul deep inside. Hard to pinpoint one phrase in particular -- but I'm going with: " .....and suddenly remember all of the positives that were deeply buried in a living grave of devastating negativity and useless complexities."

PS - Methinks your disappearing blogs suffered the same vote as our Patriots' votes. Jus' saying.

  4. OMG!!!!! This might have been my favorite post!!!! Those pictures are spectacular! Such color. I can't believe your pumpkin still looks good. Mine is gone...of course it's much warmer here I think. We're currently in the high 70's here. I won't complain. I enjoy Indian summer almost more than autumn itself. Another week, I think all the leaves will be gone.

What ever was your blogger issue? Or was is too much to explain? I needed this today. I have electricians here today updating code on fuse box and all the outlets and switches and light fixtures per the condo association. Dust flying! My Joan Crawford OCD and anal retentiveness is on over drive.

"It's not you Im mad at....IT'S THE DUST!"

  6. Photos are exactly the right size, and beautiful, Jon. Glad glitches got manageable. I've had trouble lately with cursor flying off-stage then flying back onto some tiny, ill-placed symbol I've never seen before that clears my work! I now keep a big, rusty claw hammer on the desk and the problem miraculously disappeared.

  8. I like the bigger pictures. I always use big font (have some readers with poor eyesight) but I never thought of larger pictures. I think you can click on mine to enlarge them, though.

Anyways, your contemplative mood I found enchanting...almost like music. :)

  10. The photos are beautiful Jon. Not too large, not too small, just right (Goldilocks) Autumn colors are exceptionally beautiful this year. In years past we've missed the peak of the season because of rain. Not this year, full color. Thanks for sharing.

  11. WOW Jon, your camera takes gorgeous photos! I am still looking for another camera since the flashbulb went on mine last weekend. :(

I am with you - when it comes to pictures THE BIGGER THE BETTER!

  12. This was a beautiful post, Jon, and nature does have ways to soothe the soul and calm the spirit. Just looking at the fall colors and sensing you had a great day outdoors was wonderful. Too bad the pumpkin had reached its demise, but still looked better than some I’ve seen in recent days smashed on sidewalks or roadways.the photos were not too large because if they were small, the colors would not have been as glorious, bigger is good, and too many bloggers post way too small images, so thanks.
