DID I MISS.....?

Did I miss Valentine's Day? Love is very often misconstrued. Methinks it's merely infatuation or lust. Infatuation fades quickly when reality sets in. Lust can.....last....awhile

I've been infatuated dozens of times. I've been in lust hundreds of times. Really.

I've been in deep, passionate, unrelentingly devoted true love only once. Until death do us apart.

And that person is now gone, having died much too young.

There are no happy endings.

Nothing new here. I'm still trapped in this #*!!%#**!! Gainesboro rehab facility (you fill in the blank).

The horrific "wound" on my ankle still drains and bleeds. I had two bouts of antibiotics. It is VERY  painful and never heals.

Today the wound care nurse said it's looking better.

It's impeding me from having physical therapy. Among other things.

I'm not in the mood to write about "other things".

Dinner, anyone?

One of the workers here told me that Walmart now delivers perishable food here, like they do in Jamestown.

The thing is, Signature Health Care in Jamestown is about a mile from Walmart.

Here in Gainesboro, the nearest Walmart is 30 miles away, in Algood (that's the name of the city). A big difference.

In Jamestown I got fresh food quickly.

Here in Gainesboro..........

Well,

last Sunday I ordered deli food from Wlmt. It was supposed to be delivered at 4:00 p.m.

Got a delayed message.

And another one.

My food finally arrived at 7:00 p.m. I wasn't angry. Unexpected things happen.

I had an apple and walnut salad and a New York deli sub. A bottle of Coke and a nutrition drink.

The apple/walnut salad has long been my favorite.

Apple slices, candied walnuts, cranberries, chicken, blue cheese.....a sweet onion vinaigrette dressing. (sp?) I don't spell it that way, but Google does.

Unfortunately it was wilted and not fresh, but I ate every morsel.

The Coke tasted good because the company finally improved the flavor.....using the old flavor.

Nutrition drink?

I aways buy Bolthouse (curious name), they never use preservatives or anything artificial.

They have other unusual flavors, but chocolate is my fave (don't you hate people who use unnecessary abbreviations?).

The deli sub sandwich didn't taste fresh at all. So late in the day, I undoubtedly got the last of everything.

So....

will I order deli food from Wlmt. again?

Hell, yea. I'm a masochist.

Jon ❤️

waiting to see how many people liked this post, compared to the precious three (or was it four?) who loved my previous post.

Relax. It's only bleak sarcasm.

  2. I'm glad that you have Walmart available...be it a distance compared to Signature.
At least you can have access to edible food compared to that 'questionable'
cuisine of your current imprisonment. Bolthouse sounds like a good choice for protein and vitamins. That was good news that the heel wound is showing some signs of improvement. That process is slow. Lower extremity circulation can slow things down and add edema or other circulatory issues as well as infections and you can be in a holding pattern for a while. Hang in there, Jon.

    1. I never thought of lower extremity circulation. The feet often cause all sorts of problems. Well, at least the wound is heeling. The intense pain seems to be slightly diminishing, but my ankle is sore.
I'm glad that I can get food, other than the what they serve here. I wish I could have the nutrition drink every day. I am gaining weight.

  3. Apple walnut salad is one of my favorites too! It's a shame that it wasn't fresh for you. Hearing about your food while you're in a facility is just another reason why I will never be in one. I love my own food preparation. Yesterday I made dill pickle soup which is actually a Polish potato soup. I'll have some more for lunch today. This soup I discovered a few years ago while I was visiting Pat in Canada. We stopped into a radical restaurant and they had dill pickle soup on the menu. I never heard of dill pickle soup so I gave it a try. Viola! It was delicious. So easy to make too. Only problem is that it's so good I have to watch I don't over eat.
I think of you often Jon and your predicament. Always wishing you the best in your difficult circumstances.

    1. I was hesitant to try the apple/walnut salad, but I really love it and order it often.
I never heard of dill pickle soup. I'm sure your homemade soup is delicious. There's nothing better than homemade food. I think of you often, and glad you're hanging in there. The difficult obstacles never end.

    2. Jon,
I never heard of dill pickle soup either until I saw it on the menu at that Canadian eclectic restaurant that Pat took me to. It's actually a Polish potato soup. I just finished it up today for lunch. It is sooooo good. And so easy to make, ridiculously easy to make. And satisfying. I only eat homemade food these days. I can't digest frozen entrees, too much artificial ingredients and tasteless meat in them. Pretty packing though. I'll give them that.

  4. Nope, you didn't miss Valentine's. I don't talk about it, but that (date) marks the anniversary of my divorce from the love of my life -- one that I actually initiated.
So glad WalMart is now offering perishables; I hope the wilted salad and disappointing sub were random casualties and not the norm. I've never heard of Bolthouse drinks, but may pick up a few for Tom to up his protein levels. Thanks for the recommendation!

    1. I never heard of a Valentine divorce. I think it's intriguing - - but undoubtedly it wasn't for you. I'm sure it was difficult.
I like Bolthouse Farms. They are rather pricey ( my chocolate drink is over three dollars). I'm glad Walmart is delivering perishables. I'm gaining weight.

  7. thecontemplativecat here, again. When we had covid we used the something-deliver groceries service. It was helpful. Never thought about ordering a meal.

    1. After ten long years, Walmart now delivers groceries to my rural home in Jamestown. They seem to be delivering everywhere now - - even small meals from the deli.

  8. Despite all the criticism folks direct at Walmart, Jon, it is certainly proving useful for you. Glad to read about the deliveries of food that you actually enjoy and are helping with weight gain. That alone could also help with healing that heel wound (sorry for the bad pun).

  9. I'm catching up... I like Bolthouse Drinks too, Chocolate is the only one I can't drink since I can't do Chocolate, but all the others I've liked very much. Those personal Salads are great too, less waste than buying a bunch of Salad Fixins and then throwing some away that don't get used up in time. If you get that Transfer you'll get your orders in better shape from the closer Wal-Mart. So, all Body Parts crossed it goes thru and you get Transferred soon to Signature.
