I admittedly don't know how this "surprise" will turn out, but I thought I'd share it with you.
Let's reverse time and go back a week or two before Christmas.
Do you remember the Dragon Lady from Signature Health Care? I don't want to reveal her real name so let's call her Tira. Well, I wrote her a letter before Xmas. I was concerned about all the expensive things I left there. I didn't want anything delivered to my home until I'm there. So, I asked if they could temporarily keep my things in storage.
I also subtly mentioned that she's a hard worker (true) and did a lot for me (sorta true).
Anyway, I got a call from Tira, who assured me that my stuff would be kept safe until I returned home.
We reconciled from past clashes. Which is a satisfying accomplishment.
Here's the surprise:
Yesterday I got a phone call from Tira. I was stunned when she asked me if I'd like to return to Signature Health Care (in Jamestown) instead of staying here at Gainesboro! I have no clue what prompted this, since my insurance coverage to stay at Signature ran out. Anyway, she told me to discuss it with my social worker.
That's the Big Problem (capitalized for emphasis).
Almost everyone who works here at Gainesboro Rehab are impossible to communicate with. I requested to talk with social workers and nurses on previous occasions, and they always ignore me.
Yesterday the social worker was supposed to talk with me about going to Signature.....but she never showed up. She was at a "meeting".
Every aspect here is infuriating.
Last Wednesday I had xrays on my swollen knee and on my lungs. The doctor (Dr. Hill) told me I'd receive the results later that day.
Four days have passed, and nobody knows a dang thing about my xrays.
Incompetence abounds.
I'm praying that I can dump Gainesboro and return to Jamestown. I've had some "issues" with Signature in the past, but at least everybody who works there are organized.
Change of subject
I ordered more deli food from Walmart yesterday. It arrived on time! The delivery driver's name was Noah. I like that.
Another update
Remember my roommate's wife, who talked so incessantly that I wanted to kill her?
Well, I got to know her. She never shuts up, but I like her. She is logical, has a sense of humor....and she has three cats.
Unfortunately, her husband Leo has dementia and was physically and mentally deteriorating very rapidly. It was heartbreaking to see.
Two days ago, he was transferred to another room. My intuition told me why.
Early this morning his wife came in and told me that Leo passed away last night.
It was upsetting to hear but fortunately his wife is a strong, courageous woman, who can handle difficult situations admirably. I sensed she was relieved that the intense struggle was over.
Their (grown) children and other relatives will be with her this weekend, which is good.
She left some flowers here on the wall.
Jon 💚 somber and reflective
Two days ago it was 70 degrees (Fahreheit), today (Sunday) freezing weather predicted.
Winter has no intention of leaving yet.

I have been trying to get caught up. You sound in better spirits!!!! And wrong is wrong with the dragon lady? Did she hit her head and is briefly being nice?!?!?! Jokes aside...it does happen. It takes time for some relationships to change out of no where. It would be nice if you got back there to the other place.
ReplyDeleteI buttered the Dragon Lady when I wrote the letter. Now she's a sweetheart. Who kmows how long it will last?
DeleteI NEVER thought I'd be saying this....but....I hope you can get back to Signature. It does sound like the current establishment is a train wreck on many levels. Signature certainly had/has its issues, but this one may have won the prize.
ReplyDeleteWe had some warm, sunny days here last week. A real teaser of spring. Apparently, Mother Nature had other ideas. We're under a Winter Storm Watch here today. It's started snowing again and temps have bottomed out.
Good luck with the transfer. You might need to get loud and crazy. A little grease for the wheels!
Paranormal John
I'd feel more comfortable because it's closer to home, and they have MUCH better physical therapy. Gainesboro is very disorganized.
DeleteThe weather is a rollercoaster. 70 one day and 30 the next.
It's a good sign that you are exposed to a different side of those two women, maybe they too had lots going on in their own lives, and now their troubles are less.
ReplyDeleteHoping you manage to return to Signature, it sounds like your current rehab has many problems. Gainsboro is a small town, I would imagine they don't have the resources of a larger city.
Keep pushing for that rehab Jon, it will ultimately be your ticket home.
Jo
The Dragon Lady was tough to tame, but my rommate's wife was nice all along. Signature has much better physical therapy than Gainesboro. It's completely chaotic and disorganized here. And Signature is closer to home....and Walmart *smile*
DeleteJon,
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear that you got some good news. Isn't it wonderful to find commonality with someone? I'm glad you became friends with your roommate's wife. Some sad news here, I found out through my sister-in-law that my MAGA brother's cat died which is a shame. Even though my brother and I don't speak (haven't for over three years now), I felt bad hearing his loving companion "Ditto" (a female calico named after Rush Limbaugh (of course) had died. He rescued her from a dumpster at McDonald's. However, she told me that he now has a new cat who is more friendly to company. His other cal always hid. It's easy for him to get cats, his daughter rescues them. I wish I could have a cat but I can hardly take take of myself let alone a cat. Again, I echo what another commenter said, I'm glad you saw the other side of that woman and that you have another woman looking after you. There are glimmers of hope sometimes in this miserable world.
Ron
I had to laugh when you said your MAGA brother had a cat named Ditto after Rush. It's very difficult to lose a beloved pet, as you and I know. I still cry when thinking of my cats. I'm glad I got to know the two women I disliked. It's a good feeling.
DeleteTake care, Ron. I got the photo of your soup! Looks great.
What a curious turn of events! Suppose Dragon Lady has a mad crush on you? (Stranger things have happened.) I so hope you can return to Signature!
ReplyDeleteI suppose your unfortunate roomie's passing was inevitable, but still. Another loss. I'm glad you were able to see his wife(widow?) for the Real lady she is.
I got interrupted by a nurse and I lost my reply to your comment.
DeleteHa! The Dragon Lady would never have a crush on me. She's married with kids.
I'm glad I got to know my roommate's wife. It's so sad that he passed, but it really was merciful.
I'm hoping I can return to Signature, but....who knows?
Jon, the events you shared in this post just go to show that you never know about people. And, it was nice to read some encouraging news about a possible transfer back. Plus getting an on time food delivery was really great. Hope the improving news continues. We’re under a blizzard watch here, no warm ups for a while.
ReplyDeleteYou're certainly right. We never know people by judging them too quickly. I really hope I can be transferred to Signature. It's closer to home, and they're MUCH more organized.
DeleteIt's 29 degrees today but no snow.
I'm so glad to hear that after getting to know The Talker, you actually came to like her. Her Husband passing was likely bittersweet for obvious reasons, you don't like to see those you Love suffer, and yet, we don't want to lose them either. The Man has early Dementia and it does worry me as it progresses since I did lose my Mom to it and tho' no way to go is pleasant, that one is so hard on everyone since you lose them in layers and the anguish they often have is heartbreaking. My Dad's Body gave out first, Mom's Mind did... if I had a choice, I'd prefer to exit like Dad did and have my Mind intact.
