WET LEAVES AND WAYWARD GHOSTS

An appropriate Halloween weekend. Today: 49 chilly degrees, endless shivering rain, bone-rattling wind, and sporadic showers of yellow and orange leaves.
And ghosts? I hear them whispering restlessly among withered leaves at night.

I planned to walk in the woods, take more photos, but it's too wet, too muddy, too miserable. The dire weather forecast is predicting ice by Wednesday night. They said ice, not frost.
I'm dreading it. I'm not prepared for winter. The furnace is faulty. My electric blanket stopped working. I haven't fixed the cracks in the doors and windows.

Am I complaining? You haven't heard half of it. The water heater is kaput, the clothes dryer blew up, my car broke down.

AND (dramatic drum roll inserted here)

The oven in my stove stopped working. I suspected something was wrong with it weeks ago, but tried to ignore the problem.
I'm positive I can fix it. All I need is a new heater element, but I'll have to order it online - and delivery takes a week.

Did I mention the mice? During the past two nights my cats killed seven of them here in the house. Bosco rudely woke me last night when he deposited one in my bed (this wasn't the first time).

I'm revealing too many of the joys of my existence. You're fortunate I haven't told any of my serious problems.......it would take too long (no, I'm not jesting).

Meanwhile I have a slow cooker, a small electric oven - - and last week I bought a new microwave. My old microwave was nearly 15 years old so I figured it's time for a new one.

I'm posting my latest video, which isn't really much at all. Just a few random glimpses of old Halloween costumes. I think those old homemade costumes were a lot creepier than the things they have today.

I'll write more tomorrow.

Happy Haunting, Jon

  1. Not only more creepy ... but so much more creative! Thank goodness for your slow cooker, etc. We had to replace our not yet 3 y/o microwave this year; nothing's built with any iota of quality anymore. Happy Halloween!

  2. Good Morning and Happy Halloween, Jon.

I hope you and the Fur Babies have a fun day.

Always enjoy your postings. Enjoy your new microwave. I had to also purchase a new one as the one I got when I moved down to the Rio Grande Valley 5 years ago went. I bought one but it was like and inch and a half to wide to go into where the old was was over the stove. So I took it back and got me a new Farberware French Door toaster oven and air fryer. It is always something, as you well know.

    Take care and be well.

    Ciao,

  3. You are quite right - the costumes WERE creepier - the best ones are always homemade!

Yesterday was overcast with sunshine here and there. Today is about the same but much, much windier.

Stay safe and warm with the kitties and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

I love comments. Go ahead and leave one - I won't bite. But make sure you have a rabies shot just in case.
