UNWANTED KISSES, AUDACITY, FRUGAL BURRITOS, UNWANTED WEEDS

All right, let's put aside our political differences for a minute and get down to the nitty gritty:
I couldn't imagine anything more devastatingly horrifying than getting a sloppy, unwanted, probing kiss from Al Franken.
(if you haven't been watching the news lately.........you're very fortunate).
I was trying to be funny. Shoot me.

Change of subject and depressing fact:

My blog posts with piano music are consistently my very least popular posts (see previous post)
My reason for doing them?
1. To show off.
2. To establish the fact that I once had a meaningful life, far removed from the Hillbilly Boonies.

I use Audacity to transfer my old piano tapes to computer-friendly files (Audacity isn't an attitude, it's a software program).

I've noticed that Audacity doesn't always produce a completely accurate transition of my piano recordings. The speed is often slightly faster than my original performance, and very annoying skips and jumps appear for no apparent reason. I've tried using different settings and even tried exporting to different files (like WAVE instead of mp3) but nothing works.

I made potato burritos yesterday.

Whenever I don't have the ingredients to make regular burritos, I make frugal potato burritos. The Mexicans often made them in Texas.
My recipe:
I dice some potatoes (I use four), chop up an onion, and put it in a frying pan -
season it with garlic salt, black pepper, and paprika. Then I fry it with butter until it's golden brown. Or until the house fills with smoke and stinks.

Finally I garnish it with cheese (any kind), wrap it in a large flour tortilla, and eat it with sour cream and/or salsa.
(BTW- this recipe makes more than one burrito).

Who the hell do you think you are, Jon? Martha Stewart?

Settle down, Kemosahbee. I figured if my music doesn't charm them, my cooking will.

Weeds, anyone?
I've been going out early the past few mornings to clear "weeds" from my property. They're not exactly weeds..... more like five foot monsters.
The work is cumbersome and the results are minimal. I spent half an hour picking stickers and burrs out of my clothes and scraping mud off my boots.

Despite the fact that it's mid-November, some of the foliage is still lovely. Here are some pics taken yesterday:

  1. In the boonies as you are, you could probably cultivate some "weeds" that would elevate your mood and help you sleep. Just sayin'.

    1. If I was any higher, I'd be in heaven (...just kidding...).

Actually, Donna, Big Brother is everywhere and the boonies aren't as private as we think. Those pesky helicopters occasionally hover and spy.

    2. Is there wild ginseng root growing in your mountainous hollers? It brings a pretty penny.

    3. Gabrielle - I'm very naive when it comes to plants. I wouldn't know wild ginseng if it bit me. I just might be living on a gold mine without knowing it....

  2. Honestly, I can think of something worse--being 14 or 16 and molested by a man in his 30s. But it is all bad. I am glad this is all coming out--from everywhere people in positions of power abuse that power...no matter who it is.

Love your fall pics. Just gorgeous your way in the woods. I do miss trees. Pretty sparse where I've lived since 2005. :(

    1. I don't care about Al Franken's political persuasion - - I've always thought he was repulsive and never liked him. His antics aren't funny.
It's actually a good thing that people are finally coming out with their stories of sexual abuse. All those perpetrators were smug thinking that they could get away with it.

The autumn foliage is lingering very late this season and I like it!

  3. My dear, you can cook and play piano for me anytime you want! I enjoy your posts of piano and composers and if you keep talking food...im yours! Don't worry if people don't comment, they may still be enjoying.

    1. If you dare to eat my cooking, you'd better have some good medical insurance - just to be on the safe side. I should probably stick to playing the piano.

It's comforting to know that there might be thousands of people out there who love me but never comment.....

    1. The first time I ever had potato burritos was in San Angelo. At first I was skeptical, but soon I got to like them.

  5. I don't care so much for potatoes, but go figure ... now my taste buds are screaming for one of those burritos.
    Loving your fall foliage!

    1. I'm not a big potato fan, either, but they're cheap and plentiful around here. And they do make good burritos. I also make frugal potato soup.

  6. Majestically beautiful photos, Jon. And, as for "Or until the house fills with smoke and stinks", you have described my culinary experiments perfectly.

    1. The last time I made pancakes there was a smoke alert. I had to open all the windows to air it out. I suppose it's a culinary gift....

I'm surprised that some of the foliage is still beautiful this late in the year. It's very windy tonight, so I'm sure most of the leaves will be gone by tomorrow.

    1. I would have never thought of making burritos with potatoes until I tried some when I lived in Texas. They are surprisingly good - especially with cheese, sour cream, and salsa. Comfort food, indeed!

  8. To paraphrase somebody......”I never met a potato I didn’t like”. That with some hot sauce, absolutely! MaggieB

  9. Potatoes are very versatile and they're inexpensive around here, so I buy a lot of them. I was introduced to potato burritos when I lived in Texas and they're really good (especially with hot sauce).

  10. Jon,
Wow! Those potato burritos sound great. Thanks for the tip, I'll try them. Love the pictures of fall foliage!

  11. What can I say? You may have used Audacity as a program, but this post is pretty darned audacious, too. It's full of verve and energetic originality. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

That potato burrito sounds yummy. I'd definitely try it... especially if it had some mushrooms in it.

Your photos are always so good. Is that one of your photographs on the cover of your book of poetry? And did you do all of the formatting, etc. for the book, too?

    1. I truly appreciate the compliment - especially since I wasn't too sure about this post...
Mushrooms would be great in the burrito. I never thought of that.

Unfortunately, none of my photos had a high enough resolution for the cover of the book. I had to find a public domain photo on the Internet.
Yes, I did do all the formatting for my book (heaven knows how...).

It is almost IMPOSSIBLE, however, to format poetry for an ebook. I tried and tried and finally gave up.

But, when I finally publish my memoirs, I will hopefully have an ebook version.

    2. It isn't impossible to format poetry for an e-book. Difficult, maybe, but not impossible. Our poetry anthology "Old Broads Waxing Poetic" is done in both paperback and e-version. One of our contributors did the formatting for us, and she's also done if with several poetry books of her own. Shoot me an email if you'd like me to hook you up with her. (so to speak...)
